Going to try winter beans this year , got a few tundra in on a farm we help on which look well.
So been recommended tundra but also bumble ?
Bumble said to be later but nicer sample ?
Not sure a bit later would be a bad thing as lots of wheat .
Views and tips on both would be appreciated.
We are in sunny bedfordshire

Tundra all day long. Smaller seed. Good colour. Sample no different too springs. Yield well and can go for human consumption too.

I've grown Wizard and Tundra for the last few years and can hardly tell the difference between them. Both seem to yield similar. I think Tundra is possibly a bit taller than Wizard.

I do wonder whether there is much between bean varieties to make it worth changing too frequently.

+1
We are happy with Tundra but you don't want to be buying new seed every year otherwise it makes it expensive and yield is mostly down to the weather.

Tundra look full of promise here, drilled plenty thick enough and about shoulder height now (I'm 6ft). Had PDM/clomazone pre em and Crawler in Feb, not hard to find blackgrass now though.
Anybody else think the lower rate this year could be to blame?

who ever buys bean seed ? how do you afford it ?

beans look good here - spend to date = 220kgs/ha of Farm saved seed, 4L/ha of fuel drilling, 3 L glyphosate (bit bot on them all !) and x1 cheap CTL fungicide done yesterday ...................... next operation will be harvest

hopeful all will sell as human consumption - but if you want some to feed then I will sell you them
Ha ha. Only joking. Just pointing out that if your starting from scratch , you have to get seed from somewhere .
Probably have the seed police on the phone again now!
