New tractor time coming up.
Both tractors at the moment are JD6630 on 460’s as both do 18m tramline work, the new one is a 6155m so has a bit more hp but will be used for top dressing, so would we notice traction wise when ploughing with 5 furrows if we stuck with 460’s?
The plan is to up to 24m and bigger 520 tyres in the future.

460’s will look terrible, 520/85r38 will fill the arches better, and better options to go wider in the future if required

Look at putting 460/42 on you will get the height and find the right tyre you can let down the foot print will be as big as some broader smaller diameter tyres
Surely you can't let a 42 as low as a 38 as there is less sidewall? I've always preferred maximum sidewall height for this reason

You would be surprised at what some run up tramlines with, cant be bothered with Duals or rowcrops, so stick 600's on.

thats us. 28m tramlines, rowcrops just wouldn’t work, can be sowing grass, hauling silage, and any variety of other work in between spraying. From May till august.

Im just the same, 650 tyres in 24m tramlines. When we did 1st cut I’d been spraying all day, finished and got the call that another trailer was needed for a further field. Sprayer off, trailer on.
Add in some steep banks I’m not doing on narrow tyres, so I’m sticking with the 650s

Its about length of footprint. A long narrower footprint spreads weight better and is far superior for traction than a wider, shorter footprint.

We have two 200hp tractors, mostly identical re weight etc, but the one on 20.8r42 puts the power done far better than the one on 650's, particularly when ploughing.
