We don't know. Depends if Boris gets a deal, leave with no deal. Or god forbid another extension.

Hopefully can't get any worse. Plenty doom mongers predicting £3/kg by Christmas.

Where does everyone think the UK beef industry will be in 6 months? Will we be stuck in the same rut or will it climb?

I think WLA being mandatory and things like EID tagging etc being introduced are just as big a threat to the beef industry as low beef prices.

As for the beef price, very unlikely to climb much until the Brexit issue is sorted out and even then it might not happen.

Buying stores/ calves etc to rear you really need to be working on £3 deadweight at most for the foreseeable future!

It is very difficult to predict anything but currency and the Irish situation cannot be ignored.
The pound has strengthened in the last few days which will not help. The Irish will eventually have to start selling cattle again which will mostly come our way at a knock down price.

Selling some average over 30 month cattle at the moment and they are already below £3.00.

Nobody knows but it would be nice to have some certainty. Brexit is causing some of the problems but its uncertainty is also being used to some peoples advantage(not farmers). Unfortunatly if it drives some farmers to stop keeping stock it will help those left in which will not be a bad thing in the long run.

Dairy men need to look at what's happening with beef now as it'll happen with milk soon.

Number of buyers been reduced over the years so that 2 or 3 now control prices and finally they get so powerful they cut what they pay the producer whilst the consumer carries on paying the full price

Thankfully there are some
hard working farmer owned co-ops within the mix! Prices would be on the floor without them

the beef industry will consist of cattle from the dairy sector if prices don’t improve.

Joe public generally love beef, if only they knew how high the costs are and low the returns are.

Why should Joe public care? Can Joe public tell the difference between suckler beef and dairy beef? Up market steak chain Miller and Carter use dairy beef from Blade. I’d suggest that the public can’t tell the difference.

Hopefully you are right but not looking too hopeful.

When you see someone in a top job at one of the abattoirs who is usually buying in cattle to fatten on their own place deciding to sell as stores instead then it doesn’t bode well for where things are headed:unsure:

One abbatoir ( British Owned ) today said that ' These (Irish Cattle) will all come to market once business resumes which will further impact supply versus demand and potentially price. The next few weeks will be tricky to call'.

What is the WLA?
Whole Life Assurance.
So every animal has to be Red Tractor compliant from birth to death!

It would certainly not help the small beef producers and the present system is adequate, however if we are to find all these new markets for our stock then it may be a selling point that makes ours better than someone else's!!
