Vegan threat? what vegan threat?

In Glasgow a couple of weeks ago, we went to eat in a well known steakhouse in the City Centre. It was Tuesday, and the place was packed. We waited roughly 40 minutes for a table, and they were still queueing to eat after we had our starter.

The quality of the food soon explained why the place was so busy, it was well worth the wait. Importantly, a lot of the clientele looked under 30, and most of the tables around us looked to have ordered steaks, rather than the cheaper burger option.

I must admit @chaffcutter cutting, in seeing this, I did think the same as you.

Telegraph today saying vegan food outlets are closing because the actual number of vegans is very low, only 1.16% identifying as vegan last year.
They can’t sell enough to stay in business.
Yet another case of a lot of noise coming from empty vessels....

Fads come and go. Was Yo-Yos recently with shops springing up all over the place . Try and find a yo-yo now off line ..

I think they've always said Vegans only make up about 1% of the population. Just you can be in a room of 100 people and you'll generally know the 1 Vegan in there with you.

Went to a Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant in the city about a month ago. Food was great, I really have to look up different ways to serve beets, but the price!! Could've had a good steak and veggies for the cost of some tomatoes and yams. And while the food was great, I'd enjoy those veggies even more with some meat on the side.

Vegan threat? what vegan threat? I'm always a tad bemused by the concept of one element of society's food choice being a threat. Last time I checked farmers produce food and vegan's eat food. The exact constituents of that food is surely immaterial as farming has a broad church from meat to vegetables. If they are not eating one farmer's meat they are eating more of someone else's lettuce. What is the perceived issue exactly?

I have lost a grazing farm due to them agreeing to host a vegan festival, shame as it was good red clover for finishing lambs. However I respect his choice, they are paying him for the land and he would be against their wishes if he also hosted a sheep meat farmer as well.
They pay a lot more than me

I hope that's correct.

Yep its correct.

Meat company's however are saying they cant sell the meat so they can artificially reduce UK farmgate prices, however all they are doing is saying we cannot sell meat when in fact sales are very good but they need a good cover story/ excuse to gloss over the fact that they are importing a lot more meat from abroad ( both EU and Non EU country's than normal )

Vegan argument is being driven by the left wing media but thankfully a lot of people are now seeing thru the BS that this left wing media spout day after day and just ignore it.

There are a lot of parallels with what we are told is happening in the pig job. Prices hugely up everywhere else in europe, way above our prices for the first time ever. Huge, increasing demand from China and the far east, owing to their massive disaster with African Swine Fever. Yet we are constantly told by the (only three) processors that they can't shift pigment and prices can't rise.
Yes, I am accusing them of manipulating the market.
