Walkthrough sheep feeders

I went from walk through feeders to floor troughs to feeding rolls on the floor to feeding TMR in front of a barrier. Only problem is it took me 30 years to learn the best way for me (I accept it would not suit everyone)

TMR down a feed fence will be the ultimate in simplicity and nutritional control, but at a cost to building layout and needing machinery.

I prefer a ‘bucket and chuck it’ method for my indoor mob, even if it means paying a small premium for rolls. I’ve pondered dividing the shed up more with walk through feeders, but only as a walkway to chuck rolls into smaller mobs. The only thing stopping me is how I can feed forage, without resorting to handballing it all along the walkthrough feeders.

That’s the drawback. Our pens are 30ft x 12ft walkthroughs on both sides. Have too be mesh fronts as they open straight onto the individual pens. So big stack of hay or haylage at entrance too shed and hand ball it all out twice a day. Thankfully we have students. Or the 2 of us would take 2 hours each end of the day too feed!
in an ideal world we’d drop all the old sheds and set up for better access. But that’s never going too happen! I dread too think what our big shed would cost nowadays 😳

Why are the lambs in for so long?
some of mine are in a bit longer , simply because we lamb one batch dec - feb and only have about 2 acres attached to the farm ,(we farm about 150+ac plus another 100ac catch crops / keep in winter over 10sq miles ) for 400 sheep , so when they are out they are out with limited handling facilities , i would think 80% are out in 14 days .
its the option of keeping them in if weather is bad that made me ask the question
