Our bray board became redundant once we found a decent computer programme, have since sold the herd.
I would've thought that their use would be minimal now, what with handheld and pocket devices which can be used anytime anywhere

There is still nothing to match a pictorial display for an "at a glance" assessment of the current situation.
Could make your own out of plywood, pin-board, curtain wire and mapping pins like the first Farmers Weekly plans for a few quid though.

Our lot have an all singing and dancing computer system that does god knows what but they still have a bray board, well 3 of them

I never turn my computer off anyway.

I can pull up all the info on cows I need on my phone anytime of day or night. Can't do that with a bray board.

This is just me but I wouldn't use one if you paid me. They don't suit me at all. Just too limited and risky for me and you are going to have to have some other form of data recording anyway to record other events for cows.

Ours is handy for the dairy staff to look at so theyre not all tinkering with the computer.

My main computer is a tablet so will last a couple hours if the power is out.

The second computer is a desktop but has a backup power supply that lasts an hour.

I can print stuff out in any case.

And if the power is out longer than that we aren't milking cows anyway.
