Water bubbling up in a gateway, whos issue is it?

So it was made aware to me today that some water is surfacing outside of our field, in the gateway, but parallel to where the grass verge usually would be. So Definately clear of the fence line by a couple of feet.

I called Scottish water who came out this evening and tested it. No chlorine, did a sound test which didn’t reveal anything, and turned off the main supply which made no difference. So they’ve basically went nothing to do with us, see ya.
The water is as clear as a whistle, and when it surfaces runs down the road edge into a small hamlet village.

I don’t want to annoy the residents of the village, of which nobody has even mentioned the water to me, but I also want to make sure this is actually my problem or not. Short of a small investigation with a pick and spade, what would you recommend trying?

I would think it is a leak in the main. We have had lots where no chlorine was detected. The only way is to dig to prove that then they will fix it. As already said if it is a land drain it will slow down as it dries up but a leak from a main will only get worse.

A spring? We’ve got a fair few that have never shown before, I can put my arm down to my elbow down the hole their bubbling out of, no pipes within few hundred metres of the ones I’ve found though

I had the same response once from my water company. I couldn't believe what they said when it was so obvious a burst main. It was also freezing over the main road. I told water company that someone was going to skid off the road and get killed if they didn't fix it. They came out and fixed it the next day!

Err, I work for Parks & Gardens in my local Council.
The other morning I was in a water truck, watering trees at the Skate Park. Saw water bubbling out of the ground, rang my boss. That afternoon, Water Crew were there digging the pipe up ( by hand, with shovels ) to fix it 👍
It was probably just a 25mm line supplying a water bubbler near some picnic tables.

They are very quick on water leaks here.
Doesn’t that happen everywhere ?

Water leak in my village this week, it took 3 days to fix it ,,the line wasnt flushed out and now loads of folks are complaining about grit,a metal taste and an orange coloring to the water .
A relative inlaw works for the water board ,,emergency repairs ,,he often says some of the leaks go unreported because they are out in the sticks and nobody see's them

Water is not such a rare commodity in the UK.

Over 20% of our water is thought to be lost in leaks a mere 3billion litres a day
