Welshpool, not wanting export lmbs.

From what I understand the constant threat of live export being banned is holding back investment in a better 'tin bath'. Hopefully, once we have new/agreed rules/standards for trading, live export etc, all involved - traders, farmers, livestock and consumers will benefit.

You have seen the current consultation on banning live animal exports, to fulfil a Conservative manifesto pledge?

While I have always admired Johny Onderwaters pluck for continuing with the Joline it has unfortunately become a target for all the nutters in Kent. It has always been wrong that P & O and DFDS have not taken animals from the mainland when they have never had any issues about those that come all the way from Ireland.
The Ferry companies did not need the aggravation of the nutters threatening to put bombs on boats.
However the Irish shipments are never interfered with because they don't know when they are going out and of course the paperwork suggests they are breeding animals.

On a good day it is 4 to 5 hours from Ramsgate whereas when things are normal out of Dover it is an hour and a half.

As far as I see It , it was a fair and genuine question from one farmer to another.
More bidders the better of course but it's got to be done right as the spotlight is always on and even more so thes days .

There is an ongoing consultation.
Totally understand where your coming from.
I must add though all livestock that are exported live are moved under strict rules and regulations as well as being overseen by welfare bodies . On that understanding I see it as an important avenue that helps us find more buyers for our premium quality Welsh and British lamb which our European customers hold in high regard.
Long May we trade openly with our European neighbours.
We contributed towards the farmers ferry when that started up and although not every farmer contributed to it financially, every sheep farmer would have benefited from it.

Out of interest how much prime lamb is exported live?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
