Folk absolutely insisting on using the roads in the recent weather 'because I have winter tyres on'??

I've never bought the fudging things and the only problem I have ever had on snow is finding my route blocked by other vehicles that were on their roof or stuck in hedges etc.

Generally of the opinion that work can wait whilst my safety is a priority.

You're out of touch. If you haven't used winter tyres, I don't see how you can comment on them. What tyres were on the crashed cars you saw?

Granted, in the south west of England you'll get less benefit from them but my wife's 1 Series BMW will go nearly anywhere in winter, but the short wheelbase RWD is a liability on summer tyres in low grip conditions.

Look up cross climate tyres - a very good all season alternative to winters. As posted above, there are lots of good reviews on YouTube and in car magazines of all 3 types.

Do you run the tyres at standard pressure or drop it down a bit to get more bars on the ground?
I run at slightly lower than recommended pressure. This tractor has never spun, as long as it has been in 4wd. And as long as I'm not stupid and locking the brakes downhill it hasnt skid (skidded, skud, skudded, slid, slidded, slud?) either. Its common to put chains on smaller tractors, but I havent needed them, yet. These studs are threaded(?) on the end that goes into the tyre, so I simply remove them with a drill bit in the spring and re-install in the autumn.

Skudded. Definitely skudded.

Any one here used winter tyres and not bothered using them again or not seeing any benefit of winter tyres
Used to run Vredestein snowtrac 3's on a diesel rover I had all year round. Never had much bother in summer and would pass any stuck chelsea tractor with their rubber band coated alloys in snow. Think we could get 20000 miles out of a set. Currently run Michelin cross climates on Mrs Zero's car, their a little bit better in summer but don't stop on snow like the Vredestein's did.
