what should it cost to hire scaffolding?

Got a friend who is a Thatcher, he told me as much as half the cost of his quote is sometimes for the scaffolding! So it's expensive!

I’ve had a few scaffolders in over the last few years and they are rough as a badgers arse but they did seem keen to get it right to me, even redoing one bit when they noticed it wasn’t to current methods.
The prices quoted on here surprise me as I thought mine was cheap.

I’ve had several lots of scaffolding over the past few years and found it reasonably priced, from memory it’s usually around £15-£20 per metre per lift. So 10m long would be £150 per lift and usually 2 lifts for an average size house and 2 months hire, after that it’s usually 10% per week but I’ve had it 4 months before and never been charged extra. Things add up when they have to bridge over bits with beams. Prices may have gone up due to increase in steel and diesel and labour.

On this project the Scaffold went over the top of the property with a roof and the sides was with sheeting the roof and sheeting was up for over, one year and it all came down 2 1/2 years and cost just over 100 K

Scaffolders a law to themselves and price will be totally dependent on how they feel on the day.
Qualifications to be a scaffolder at least 6 months for GBH or possession of cocaine preferably both😂😂😂
I was talking to a bricklayer from Aberystwyth, he told me years ago, he worked on the new (then) Bro Myrddin school in Carmarthen, he said the boys from Aber were shocked to see the South Wales scaffolders openly taking drugs on site!!!

If no one other than yourself is going up the scaffold, then they are cheap enough to buy.... I prefer my "quick fix" scaffolding than a tower any day. PITA for a smaller job, so the loader and basked come into play, purely for Emergency jobs mind.

Look on fleabay...

16 weeks hire last summer was 6k then 150 a week afterwards. For full scaffold round a 2 storey new build

This was from a very reputable company in the Scottish borders and definitely not the cheapest out there

In the end, theyve agreed to go right around the house double width around the chimneys, and 6weeks included in original price. So i settled for that, 4week wait for them now.
These fellas are already 60miles away, i tried the next closest company in oban, about 85 miles away but theyre busy enough not to be too bothered.

So it appears you are correct, I'm here still waiting on scaffolding, last 4 weeks, been promised it'll be up by the end of the week.
they appeared on Tuesday, put up a total of 12 uprights, a few horizontals, and some boards on one corner, never seen since.
and Ive now heard of at least 2 other jobs that they've done exactly the same on so we can't get someone else in... 🤦‍♀️

And you are correct, one of them just got out last week from doing time for GBH, which occurred over a disagreement about the white powder.... not joking....

I get the feeling that I really need to set up a roofing / scaffolding / drive tarmac laying business that isnt in any way dubious. Would turn up, give quote, do job properly, and bill quoted amount. Who knows, it might catch on.

Bit late with this suggestion but I bought my own about 10 years ago, and it paid for itself on the first year. Having said that the planned farmhouse restorations grew arms and legs and became a monumental money pit, but that’s part the deal of living in an old house.

I like this, and then make into gates each time you think you've finished.

Did any of the trades take the huff about ascending amateur-assembled scaff?
