What timber for sheep feed trough?

Try some lengths of ''Yorkshire Boarding''.

For feet, cut a ''v'' out of short lengths of 6'' x 2'' or maybe a bit bigger.

And use galvanised nails.

I’ve ended up buying 200x50mm rough sawn planks it cost £6.66 per metre it will have a 50x50mm box section frame so hope it will be strong enough to lift about with the loader full. Probably but of an over kill but should last

Larch is virtually the only conifer available that is weather resistant without treatment. It goes grey in the first week exposure to the sun then just sits there for years.
The thing about scaffold boards is there is a fairly constant supply of old ones since HSE, LOLER etc got a hold of the job. Ebay has a bunch at £2 each collected.

You can buy plastic ends from JFC to make your own from twin wall pipe
It works ok but big but feed gets down in channels of twin wall, not much, then gets wet ,it stinks, rotting protein, then when you move them it leaks out. can not be good if gets onto the curve of feed bowl and then licked by stock.Secondly you will not want it on you.Smells like sick, lovely, given up on mine

Only if you are wealthy!!! Price 'em last year, and cut my own from plywood!

Haven't tried them my self and not likely to as I feed rolls out on the ground

When we sheeped we collected all the old wheeled hay feeders from round about, threw the lids off and lined them up to fill with the silo wagon. They worked well because the tray in the bottom collected all the silage that slipped through.

I bought 150 lengths of 200x47 KD reg treated c24 graded for £2.30/m during the first lockdown, must have been just before everything went mental
Even 50-50-3 box section is over £40/length now, but it still looks cheap compared with timber
