Illustrious came back at 12.7% protein here after producing a huge heap of grain so I'm sticking with it and going to feed it a bit more next year, really like the varietyabsolutely. Illustrious was massive yield. no figures, but huge compared to Crusoe.
What sort of ground are you on? Heavy/light etcIllustrious came back at 12.7% protein here after producing a huge heap of grain so I'm sticking with it and going to feed it a bit more next year, really like the variety
Do people up their seed rate for second wheats or stay the same?
Sandy loam and clay loam, both performed similar, one block after beans and the other osrWhat sort of ground are you on? Heavy/light etc
Thank you. Bit weak on septoria have you found?Sandy loam and clay loam, both performed similar, one block after beans and the other osr
Revelation looking good in the 1st W slot, still got 4 green leaves
Grafton has a few blind sites but is the only variety to fit in front of OSR in the 3rd W slot
Siskin, shy tillering, take all and fusarium ear blight. Like a hooker at a Man U stag do.
- Think I'll replace it with Kerrin in the 2nd W slot, but will be watching the '17 HGCA results like a hawk as it's recommendation is on "limited data".
Graham, anyone? Or is the stupid name just too offputing (apologies to anyone actually called Graham).
Coped very well with a fairly standard fungicide programThank you. Bit weak on septoria have you found?

Yes, dropping JB Diego after many years and switching to Graham. In all the local trials i have seen results for it out performed Diego.
JB did a tonne/acre better than the very disappointing Graham for one of my customers. Both were first wheats, Graham doesn't tiller very well.
What a difference a couple of months makes.
After threatening to ditch it, we started drilling Siskin as a 1st wheat yesterday after it did surprisingly well from a thin stand with ear blight, to yield 3.8t as a 2nd wheat (average 2nd wheat is about 3.6t). It'll get an early dose of N to chivvy it on in the Spring.
3rd wheat will be Grafton to allow OSR in behind, yielded well this year too.
2nd 'wheat' slot next year will be Canyon .
Revelation also yielded well with a lovely bold sample, but being 'soft' it's being dropped to allow a single 'hard' bulk for the 17 harvest, which frees up a bay for the Canyon.
I'll keep an eye out for Kerrin, Shabras and Freiston, but for this year it's a case of 'better the devil you know'.
Variable rate, but given this years shy tillering I've raised the minimum rate up to 300 seeds m/2, with the upper rate set at 450 seeds to account for some brick clay / slugs (assuming 65% survival = 300 plants). What seed rate you drilling the Siskin?

I only used Modus on headlands this year, but i'll use it on every acre next season just for fear.
Thanks for the heads up.Be very careful. Our Siskin drilled last year 1st crop drilled 22nd September at 280 seeds was a horrible flat mess come harvest
