Nope. AD(direct injection)3.152 was introduced on the 135. 35X had A3.152X engine, basically the same as the A3.152 engine but with the pump tweaked to produce 44.5 hp, up from about 38 hp.
ive got one of each & can 100% confirm thats all correct.
The 135 starts instantly & it could sit 6months between starts !
the 35 isnt far behind in the warm weather but a totally diff challenge if its sub zero. The 135 fires up much the same even if its -5

Got a 35x registered January 1964 but also got a 35 petrol / tvo with a diff lock registered February 1964 , elderly gentleman did not want a 35x diesel wanted to stick to petrol as was told 35x diesels were poor starters the same as 4 cylinders and paid more for tvo engine than 35x so I'm told .

Nope
35x had square timeing cover where dynomo bolts
Difflock optional
Mp was an option as it was crap back then but worth a pretty penny now on a 35

Yes, I have been told it was only the cover by the dynamo bolts that was the difference between a 35 and a 35X. Certainly not all X models had Multi Power, nor did they all have a diff lock.

I think the 35X produced 44.5bhp as did the later 135 from 1964 until about 1971 when it went up to 47bhp. I think that the standard 35 three cylinder was something like 38bhp.

And the same engine was 53hp in the leyland 253 and derated to 45hp in the 245 leyland syncro

Its a funny ole game of numbers hahaha

Got to be one of the best engines ever made. The low down torque and pulling power is phenomenal for such a small engine, it knocked spots off all the competition in the sixties and seventies.
I agree its a brilliant engine but not without its faults either

It is so smooth good power clean great for getting parts easy to work on
Aprt from piston rings are abit fiddily to fit

Best engine ever until the powerstar engine arrive

Don't forget the Perkins A4. 236 and the the A4. 236T and that lovely six cylinder International Harvester engine as in the 956, 1056 etc.

All 100 series perkins mf were good imo
The easiest engine to rebuild is the nash engine in the likes of the 414 434 ect
They have a lovly crackle with them

Agreed the sound of the 956 ect is lovly so sweet an smooth

The hardest engine is an mwm or Daimler i find but costly to repair

it does have a diff lock but what is the real difference? & its the good 3cyl engine in ours.
Cost £626 when it was new ive lost count how many Times my late Father reminded me of that fact.
Its Reg if anyone can tell me its age is OKS 664

New member posting! Sorry to comment on old thread but am interested in when diff locks appeared as standard on mf tractors (I'm a deeply exciting man) father reckons all 35x's had diff lock but I hear this is not the case, also was the 135 really available without a diff lock??? Would love to hear more on the subject
