Agree, 35 far far better starter than 35x
If the 35x was ffitted with a 135 engine AD3 152 , It would be better starter than a 35

35 has A 3.152 engine
35x has AD 3.152 engine
ive got one of each & can 100% confirm thats all correct.Nope. AD(direct injection)3.152 was introduced on the 135. 35X had A3.152X engine, basically the same as the A3.152 engine but with the pump tweaked to produce 44.5 hp, up from about 38 hp.
Nope
35x had square timeing cover where dynomo bolts
Difflock optional
Mp was an option as it was crap back then but worth a pretty penny now on a 35
And the same engine was 53hp in the leyland 253 and derated to 45hp in the 245 leyland syncroYes, I have been told it was only the cover by the dynamo bolts that was the difference between a 35 and a 35X. Certainly not all X models had Multi Power, nor did they all have a diff lock.
I think the 35X produced 44.5bhp as did the later 135 from 1964 until about 1971 when it went up to 47bhp. I think that the standard 35 three cylinder was something like 38bhp.

Its a funny ole game of numbers hahaha
I agree its a brilliant engine but not without its faults eitherGot to be one of the best engines ever made. The low down torque and pulling power is phenomenal for such a small engine, it knocked spots off all the competition in the sixties and seventies.

It is so smooth good power clean great for getting parts easy to work on
Aprt from piston rings are abit fiddily to fit
Best engine ever until the powerstar engine arrive
Oh did it thanks i stand correctedThe Leyland was 45 hp,,,,,The 253 stood for ,,,,,,,,,,,2.5 litre 3 cylinder, when it morphed into the 245...2 wheel drive 45 hp.
Mine is oks 539 can't be far apart!i have from New a 35 that still runs v well but when we tidied up its paintwork about 10yrs back i could only get 35X stickers at the time.
it does have a diff lock but what is the real difference? & its the good 3cyl engine in ours.
Cost £626 when it was new ive lost count how many Times my late Father reminded me of that fact.
Its Reg if anyone can tell me its age is OKS 664
Amazing Tractors
Complete a few hundred quid i would imagineI have a MP gearbox out of a 35X think I still have the pump that pressurised it aswell, how much would it be worth?
Best 4 cylinder everI agree the Perkins 236 is a great engine .
