Always wondered, I know some buy from auctions but there never seems to be much margin for profit yet most run around in newish range rovers
That not what I've noticed about auctions and dealers purchasing the tack. If I recognise the dealer it's always good fun to look at his website and see how much he's whacked on top of the original price. Machines that really don't need much more than a steam clean and polish gain 25% plus.

I agree and I also don't believe the regular dealer buyers at auction pay commission at the rate we do. Down here it's anywhere between 5-10% commission.

The local chap here is known by the local land agents and goes in to clear farms for people if they go sick, end tenancy, bankruptcies, death or the like. Pays significantly less than it would make in farm auction but zero hassle for seller or commission. Also council sell direct to him and local dealers send on part ex directly to him just sold off pictures. Wash it off, on eBay, get enough in the yard to fill an artic for export. Job done.

Is that before they have been through the second auction involving the ring though
