He os very well bred and was a Junior Champion at the Great Yorkshire Show which lead to his sale. I am currently using a half brother as my stock bull and replaced this bull for Richard a couple of months ago as he has been so pleased with the temperament and quality of offspring.
I’m guessing you bred the bull?

im guessing you bred him? He is very impressive credit to yourself! Have you many pedigree blondes? I’d like to get into them been doing my research the last few weeks. I feel they are they same as the lims just you’ll never need to pay 250k for a heifer. I find blondes very cheap for what you get and what they are capable of breeding and they seem to finish/grade well.

We did😁. Only have a small herd, my wife grew up with Blondes and we started our own herd about 8yrs ago. I wish they were 250k and would agree they are much undervalued. We do all the health testing and EBV reports as I think people are looking at more information when selecting stock than they once did. Welcome to come and view ours and we do have a couple of 2020 heifers available.

Good on you he’s a cracker!! Need many more blonde bulls like him! Out of interest how many pedigree cattle do you currently have? Do you find them easy to sell? I’m guessing you’ve bred your own stock bull to? Is it easy finding him work and not to put him back on his own with having a small herd? Could you send me some photos and details of the heifers you currently have? Have you any bulls available?

As we are limited on land, we can only run 10/11 pedigree females and so fluctuate between 20 -30 head depending on the time of year. I wouldn't say an easy sell, but ultimately quality does sell and with high health and very good temperament this helps. Some people don't wish to pay a premium for this and go elsewhere which is fine, but at the moment we are able to maintain the pricing level we require. This year we are keeping two heifers and so the stock bull will have a total of 4 years with us. We've two young bulls that will work from late summer/autumn and are in halter training at the moment😁.

That’s a good steady number tho. I’d be looking at 5/6 pedigree females if I was going to go for it so I’d make sure I could sell them to start with and go with the demand. I’d cull anything not worthy as I seem to be noticing there’s too many pedigrees that should really be culled. That’s good your able to sell them and I think you get what you pay for in my eyes. That’s good how does he look? Have you his mother in the herd? That’s a good heifer what sort of price are you looking for them? Good bull also I’m guessing that’s your stock bulls progeny?

Not enough breeders make the tough decision to cull, if we don't think they're good enough to breed from why would/should anyone else. We have the mother, Auntie and Grandmother for that young bull and the mother and half sister of our stock bull😁. The young bull pictured is from our stock bull, the heifer is by a bull we sold last year as the mother is half sister to stock bull. The heifer is sold and going to a pedigree breeder in South Wales.

Your right there!! I don’t understand why tho then breeders wonder why the breed has a bad name. Have you had to cull many? Do you just A.I your stock bulls relations? He’s breeding well then. That’s good she’s a cracking heifer going to a good home makes the job worth while.

Cull occasionally, had a bull last year we weren't happy with and sent him in. He went for 239.5ppk which at the time was pretty good. We brought a new bull in 3yrs ago and had just one crop as he dislocated his knee over the winter😒. We have three bulls in the tank to use as required, just have to keep cows split until all back in calf.

That’s a decent price for a bull what age was he and What did he kill out at and grade? That’s typical Iv had that too and there always the best ones and breed the best. Have you collected semen from any of your stock bulls? There seems to be a very limited amount of decent blonde bulls with semen available. Out of interest which bulls do you use and why? Iv a few Iv picked but still not 100% as yet.

If you are wanting to breed female replacements from semen companies bulls you would need to be careful, i would be wanting a recommendation from somebody who has proven the calving ease. The beef Ai bulls are chosen on calving ease primarily but you will end up with the opposite in any offspring more often than not. You need a bit of negative calving value in any sire of potential replacement females.

I'd have to dig out the numbers, probably about 16month and maybe 750kg I would guess, don't see the point in feeding them to 900+ for less ppk if they aren't right for breeding anyway.

We have semen of Hallmark Boxster, who formed the base of our females and have slowly replaced females for all homebred stock/prefixes. We also have some Blackwater and Hackleton but haven't used them as yet.

That’s a good weight and I agree there. Have you any pictures of your current stock bull? How is hallmark boxster for calving? Would that be Ainsley I’m very impressed with how he breeds from what Iv seen! Have you used any other bulls? Have you any embryos for sale?

This was last summer, he'd be about 2 1/2 on this and out for his second summer. We never had any Calving issues with Boxster, our females always get a good start in life and we find thereafter they maintain condition very well all year round without any concentrates, rotational grazing and good silage/hay is enough. Good cows make Calving and reproduction quicker. Ainsley is the grandfather of our stock bull. Thought about taking embryos in the past, there are risks/costs and not sure the demand would be there for them.

He’s a cracking looking bull you should collect semen from him as there’s not many blonde bulls about like him! And if he breeds anything like his grandfather you’ve a good one. Are you managing to sell lots of Boxster semen? Have you any pics of his daughters? That’s good to hear will maybe give him a try. You must have at least one good cow to flush? I think that’s why the blondes are going wrong not enough good genetics around and the lims are excelling on that. The 250k heifer was an embryo so just goes to show. I’d certainly be interested in some.

Daughters/Grand Daughters. Sold a far bit of Boxster Semen, mainly to dairy and suckler herds....funny bunch Blonde Breeders🤣. A couple of Pedigree Breeders have used him and are very happy also. We do have a granddaughter that has had two very good heifer calves to date, one we've kept and one sold to a Breeder in Wales, she's due again in next few weeks and maybe one we'd consider flushing. No idea what costs are involved nowadays or what to charge😃.

We do, she's due any day with her 11th calf, sold last year's daughter yesterday and have previously kept two daughters😀. Just sold her identical sister and two of her daughters.

Hard to choose which to flush, also have a Yorkshire Show Breed Champion who's never let us down😆😆, sold her daughter from last year yesterday as well and a grand daughter!

Oh nice what are they both in calf to? That’s good I hope there away for pedigree breeding! If you were to flush which bulls would you use? Have you got much calves on the ground so far this year?

We've just three cows still to calve, we have them all in a 6 week block and should be done in the next 3 weeks. Ark Dora had a bull calf yesterday.

We're possible we are trying to only use stock we have bred, so if flushing we would look to use our own bulls.
