And allegedly the richest man in Westminster. A true man of the people.
Interesting, the word 'allegedly' infers some wrong doing, and your last sentence could be taken as a venture into sarcasm... do you think that having had a successful business career should preclude someone from entering politics?*

Perhaps being a loud-mouth who has, in fact, done nothing but gained the backing of union bosses - true men of 'the people' (ha!) - is a better qualification. Anyway, please do tell us what you think would be the best preparation for a parliamentary candidate... can't wait! :nailbiting:

*As a corollary to that, I do think that having had a political career should prevent someone from entering some sorts of business after it, for a given period.

You’re reading far too much into it, I said allegedly because I don’t know how true it is ,absolutely no intention to infer wrong doing. The man of the people remark was an attempt at sarcasm so you were right there.
As you ask, I think the best preparation for someone in government is to have worked at the very least for ten years in a normal working environment, preferably from the bottom up . I fail to see how a wealthy career politician can make laws and decisions that affect someone living and working on the breadline without realising what impact those decisions will have. It was recently reported that Johnson was finding it hard to cope on a PM’s salary ( plus expenses and accommodation ) . How does he think someone on minimum wage copes. I do not think that anyone Eton educated or from a similar background has any real grasp of the problems of the “ man in the street “. Just for the record, people who aren’t millionaires are not necessarily loud mouthed union activists.

I agree with some of that; and I hope you would agree that someone who - through sheer ability - gets to the 'top' of anything faster than others shouldn't be penalised for having done so. I don't think people who have had a private education are any more or less capable of sympathy and empathy than those who haven't; by your argument a billionaire's children who were sent to a local community school would be more in touch with the 'real' world than a council estate scholar at Eton - manifestly a daft position to take. Just for the record, people who are millionaires are not necessarily ignorant and unfeeling snobs.

I think that a billionaires children sent to a local community school will be much more in touch with the real world than a billionaires children sent to a private school. But, I would not want to deny anyone a private education. I think parents should be able to spend any money they have where they like. I also think that parents who do pay for private education are giving their children a better chance in life.

Not Sunak. Hopefully. He's a globalist. Probably not Pritti although I would like that but the media have destroyed her public image. Nobody in Labour can add up and spend most days licking windows with odd shoes on so that's not happening.

Hmm. Interesting one. No idea really. Truss? Nah. Um. Maybe one of the juniors like Mangnall.

Serious lack of talent out there.

Ooh, Donald Trump. Job done.

Long time to go but my prediction is Borris will still be leading the conservatives into the next election

He’ll have jumped ship a long time before then, as he won’t want to be the one in charge when they lose the next election.
Whatever we think of Labour, unless they put another Corbyn in to lead, they will win the next election. The ‘briefly repainted’ red wall will swing back (& probably has already tbh), and the economy is facing a turbulent few years, regardless of the outcome of Brexit. Unemployment is set to soar just as soon as the delaying effect of furlough eventually finishes, and lots of rents and mortgages will be in default soon after. Things aren’t going to be pretty, and the government of the day will be punished for it, however well they are doing.
Labour would have to work even harder than Corbyn & Abbot did if they are to throw the next one away, imho.

Ah well, the Conservative and Brexit Party continue with their relentless drive to the 17C with a bit of gerrymandering now. Rees Mogg be proud. Trump could learn a bit about rigging elections from Billy Bunter and crew.

Redrawn constituency map will give Tories a ten-seat advantage
