Will a disc mower cut and leave a long stubble?

How simple are the skids on your tool?

Couple of the species, but chicory and some of the legumes get very unhappy I am told... But TBH, I'd have thought 5" should be enough...

There are 2 topping skids on my 9’ (mounted) Malone. You just slot them into a couple of pre-drilled holes in the bed and put 2 or 3 bolts (don’t remember which tbh) in to fasten. Quick and easy to do, once you’ve worked out where they go.

I was told it was a Comer bed, which is commonly used, so presumably other makes have the same mounting holes & topping skids too?

Cheers. Did see a 2nd hand Malone on locally online... Pleased with yours?

It’s a simple disc mower with a well built (Malone👍) headstock and at a very competitive price.
It is belt driven , which I might avoid if I was mowing a big acreage, but it’s fine for what I need.

It’s odd using it after only ever mowing with 10’ trailed mower conditioners previously, but it does the job well.

a disc mower. will do a cleaner job unless topper off set to the side always find were I run over grass topper tends to do a poorer job unless cutting low
alot belive a mower has a cleaner cut as well were toppers munchers tend to be a thicker blade and smash the grass a bit more.
did top with a 4 drum mower. for a while aswell with drums set as high as they could go was ok but tended to leave in rows a bit ok if balling off the toppings if not baling better to try and spread out. as much as yer can

It would be something of an improvemnt over a 2 drum 1.65m drum mower... :)
