You’ve all got a COVID app on your phone now

One advantage of rooting an Android phone, you have total control over what is and isn't installed. Maybe time I looked into that.
Not that having this new addition bothers me that much. Firstly it's turned off. Secondly, I only have location services and data/wifi running when I need them. And bluetooth is always off.

That’s the API from the update. Still needs an app to activate and use it tho.

I’m curious why countries around the world haven’t commissioned a single app, like almost every other app.

Exactly. It should be standard global app, particularly as a lot of cases get brought in or exported by travel.
An app that isn't compatible globally is of fairly limited use.

Can it be uninstalled or a forced stop in the app section

It is not supposed to be doing anything just yet as it is voluntary (really dont trust anything they say to be honest), so with regards the API, I dont know if it can as it was pushed to the phone via google / android OS, so may have to root the phone somehow.

This is one more stealth tracking system on the phone. All the bloody apps now will only work if you sign your life away. Should be outlawed, as it is getting very dangerous the amount of information that is being given out freely by these devices to god only know who.

Yet apple in the media say they don't know anything about it?
This isn't a tracking app - it's only the underlying stuff that allows such apps to work, it remains dormant until such time as you install an app and explicitly agree to enable the functions.

Apple have been working on this for months - the claims in the media are that they weren't aware of the probable change in UK approach to the app from central to local storage etc.

Got it on mine. No big deal. But it was on the news other day they had scrapped this app?
?‍♂️
No, they've not scrapped it, just looking at switching how the system works.

Takes the pee really, as they used stealth tactics to invasively put this sh!t onthe phone... Will see how to remove it now..

what stealth tactics were used? On an iPhone it was part of an update earlier this week. I had to accept and install the update and agree to the terms and conditions. If you have auto update enabled, it would do it at night time, but still alert you that it was going to update. The masses just agree to everything, then complain that they weren’t aware.

don’t believe everything you read on social media.

not sure what you mean. Apple and google have worked on this since April, and have always been public about it.

the latest news is that the uk government have said they don’t think it’s accurate enough and may not use the apple and google api. This is the bit of news that Apple aren’t aware of.

isn’t social media great at causing uproar over nothing in particular.

I really don’t see the issue. We all carry a device that has the ability to know if we have been in close proximity with someone who may have Covid 19. We can use this information to get tested, so we don’t spread it to the rest of our family and workers. users have to opt in.

I still can't find it on mine. I never have bluetooth turned on, very rarely wifi, but I'm not sure about location services.

I don't routinely carry my phone with me and am wondering how close a phone has to be to someone else's to trigger a contact since mine spends most of its time either in the kitchen or glove box, which is probably not going to be particularly useful for snoopers.

It won't do anything unless you download an app and give it permission to work. You do not have to give it permission but you really should in this case if you want to save lives and people's long term health, including you and yours.

and then when eventually this virus is under control ,what next ?it will be or rather it is too late to put the genie back in the bottle will it become compulsory to carry a mobile phone everywhere with you or even have a chip inserted into your body it has the great danger of becoming like a criminals tag to all

I will refrain from adding to the above, as our views are polar opposites in terms of many things including this it seems.

What are you on about?! :banghead: You just delete the app or deny it permission after you have finished, just as is done now with mapping, weather and myriads of other apps that use 'location services'.

I am rather amazed at the ignorance and conspiracy theories in today's society. It really is an indictment of how far advanced humans are in terms of understanding stuff logically for themselves and how susceptible we are as a life-form to ridiculous propaganda and misinformation. How easily people are manipulated by others, far more clever, that wish them nothing but harm.
