I am remember back in the late 80's working on a large potato farm to help out. I joked one very cold day with the boss about how much time he had spent in the office that morning . His reply was .....I have been ringing around for fertiliser quotes and gave managed to save £3 a tonne .... I laughed and said " only £3 a tonne ...was it worth it ?"
He replied "when you are buying 350 tonne yes it is !"
.....all things are relevant to the situation !!

I know what you are saying but in reality, I don't think this happens, I compare prices I'm offered to others a lot and don't find them any different really

They probably should be if some of these companies were a bit smarter but I just don't think AG is smart enough to realize this yet! ......................... I live in hope, however !
Do they both deal with luvestock/dairy @Clive ?

That why i dont use Cheap Shark Insurance Ltd

I recall you saying that about F&M when I changed - yet they have paid out and been less awkward over the last 3 years than the NFUM were and I recommend them highly (they are not advertisers here)

this "NFU are expensive BUT better" is a myth - they are all the same frankly its only price that differs

That’s true, but your new quote is still way more than I pay - because my farm (and lifestyle) is far smaller and simpler than yours. For me, a 50% reduction would be worthy of thought, but possibly still not worth my time.

if you run a business then you should look for every saving you can, surely the smaller your business the more important every last £ becomes

size, contracting, diversification, property, perosnal posessions, travel and cars

however it's less than half that price now

Ah, I keep my personal stuff out of the company -

I can earn more doing other things, and value my time enough to not chase every £.

I think you have missed a trick not getting a quote from NFUM, we are back with them now, after a couple of moves, maybe next time?

Maybe next time I agree but as already posted it's hard to forgive when they were clearly taking the pee so much in the past, I'm just not sure I want to give any business to people who will work like that ??

fair enough, some personal stuff we insure elsewhere with specialists as well as advised this is the better route

I think they key n]message with this thread is that blind loyalty does not pay with insurance these days jus as is the case with gas and electricity which we swap every 12 months and always find a decent saving

switching suppliers and getting a few quotes really tales very little time or effort, I value my time quite highly but not at a price that doesn't mean spending a couple of minutes getting multiple quotes or using price comparison sites isn't worth it. You must earn a hell of a lot more than me!

I suspect it’s more that I pay a hell of a lot less than you.

With every respect to John and Clive, a pound I save on my little insurance premium every month and out of PAYE counts for quite a lot. My insurances every month are the same as my Council tax

My farm is a very small percentage of my household income though JP, so I chose to concentrate on the big ones and have some leisure time too. The phrase “don’t sweat the small stuff” comes to mind in that respect.

How long does it take you to organise a quote . Do all you Insurances finish at the same time

Do a breakdown of what your require on a pdf and then email it to a few insurers of choice. Sit back and wait for the quotes. If you like the quote go through it again with a fine toothcomb to check you are getting all you want. My experience isn't that insurers are out to catch you out with lower quality quotes - they just want to get you in and keep you in with the cover you think you are getting.

You can arrange them all to finish at the same time.
