He's in the entertainment business not the business of farming. Amazon are hardly going to pay big money for a series of "rich man buys farm, employs good Manager, farm is well managed".
They are paying money to film things going wrong. Where Clarkson comes into his own is that he is smart enough to 'engineer' those things going wrong.
I don't think there's any need to engineer things to go wrong when farming. It's the greatest battle there is to fight nature and to come out on top is an achievement. It would make us all look like simpletons if he got it right first time, because it damn well isn't easy despite what the price of food in the supermarket would have the public think. Even the best farmer on the best land with all the right new and well maintained machinery will still have breakdowns and unplanned stoppages and cock-ups, and is still at the mercy of the weather and politics.
