He's in the entertainment business not the business of farming. Amazon are hardly going to pay big money for a series of "rich man buys farm, employs good Manager, farm is well managed".
They are paying money to film things going wrong. Where Clarkson comes into his own is that he is smart enough to 'engineer' those things going wrong.

I don't think there's any need to engineer things to go wrong when farming. It's the greatest battle there is to fight nature and to come out on top is an achievement. It would make us all look like simpletons if he got it right first time, because it damn well isn't easy despite what the price of food in the supermarket would have the public think. Even the best farmer on the best land with all the right new and well maintained machinery will still have breakdowns and unplanned stoppages and cock-ups, and is still at the mercy of the weather and politics.

True enough, but does battling against the elements provide enough entertainment for the type of customers that are paying for their watching pleasure? Will a business focused organisation like Amazon pay for a film crew to be there all the time just in case one of those unplanned stoppages happened?
I would love it if it does show the real trials and tribulations of farming but I expect at least it to have an element of 'rookie farmer makes entertaining mistakes', something akin to Jimmys Farm / Abz on the Farm.
We will wait to see what it is like.

It’s farming he won’t have to engineer any

we certainly didnt have to engineer any "moments" last saturday flat battery one of 3 on the combine, followed by weighbridge going faulty- weigh cell gone, drier gas pipe froze when started- only need to open valve very slightly!
and then hose burst on side knife - isolated so drove round and round instead of up and down field.
and that was all before teatime......
every day has another challenge

I think he says what the majority in the country are thinking, but the latte drinking minority in North London/BBC/Guardian/Public sector QUANGOcrats disagree with, and they are the ones who control the media (as well as the universities)
If that were true we would still be in the EU and Mrs May would be in power. The London based press were in favour of Brexit iirc.

Err, if the vote had gone the other way, DC wouldn't have had to resign. I doubt TM would had got the job next if planned succession had been allowed to happen. Not that Dave would have preferred bojo either. A Brown-esque Osborne crowning, with similar longevity?

Don’t think even he has a direct line to the weather gods! The thing is he has got across the underlying message to joe public in his usual witty way with a chunk of chaos thrown in for added entertainment, most of us can spew fact and figures but do we get the message across to our very small circle of an audience or just to be perceived as the moaning farmer again? Also I think the public have had so many facts and figures chucked at them over the last 6 months, many supposedly cast iron in accuracy, they turn off or just don’t believe them.
Good on him I say, looking forward to the Amazon series!

I have been surprised by friends of mine with zero knowledge of farming have started telling me all about how it's done, turns out they have all been following Harry's Farm on Youtube. I did watch one of his videos and actually thought he came across very well indeed.

I imagined Harry would be about 21....I don’t know why? :scratchhead:

For a journalist who spends his time writing about mechanical things, he doesn’t seem to have much interest in finding out how machines work. Or is he running some type of secret prototype combine with a novel unloading system...?
