Happened in September as well. The wholesale price of power would have gone up, some standby generators would have got themselves primed and some of the big consumers might have agreed to turn down their consumption until after teatime. I worked with an outfit a few years ago who consumed a huge amount of power (£M+ per bill) and got it at preferential rate because they agreed to not have firm supplies.

I have just received an alert from the National Grid that demand this afternoon will be within 1/3rd % as I understand of capacity.
Time to check your generators! And put your electric cars away.
But, what are we doing in this situation?

And it’s not even cold yet!

I hope the planning officers all suffer greatly, their freezers defrost and the cars loose power so they get stranded!

Stop boiling all those kettles for tea and drink alcohol instead; probably will not make any difference to power cuts but when they do arrive you probably wont give a dam! ;)
can only drink alcohol up to 6pm as of friday, after that it is tea ,pubs have to stop serving at 6pm, as Covid is more infectious after 6, so air raid warden Hodges ( or was his name first minister Drakeford?) has decreed.

Always be careful what you hope, wish, or pray for, you just might get it!
Still goes to show how close to the line we are, seems absolutely crazy. If this was a farmer and lost his power , would he have any comeback if say a house full of broilers suffocated , they would tell him he should a back up. But here we have the National grid working right up to the wire

At the risk of going on about it, NG are regularly freaking out over this but it’s not made very public - yet
