Can a dealer change a deal?

A quote is not a confirmed order, with deposit paid. Many Companies have that on a quotation anyway, or make a quote time limited (eg: 60 days).

Their is not escaping, if IW took an order, at an agreed price, and accepted a deposit in advance, they are duty (Contract) bound to supply those goods subject to the contract terms. Unless it was made clear to the customer AT THAT TIME, that the price was variable and subject to an increase in advance of delivery.

But, if variable prices are agreed, they should also include the possibility of a reduction in price should the opposite situation apply.

IW Contract will more than likely include the clause "Force Majeure" in other words, circumstances beyond there control. In this case, whether that has any legal standing is for a lawyer to advise.
I'm aware of that but pointing it out as it's the first time I have ever had a quote with that on it.
This is in the terms and conditions from the company of the trailer I did buy.

The second sentence in 3:1 is clear, and easy to understand. They have made it clear to the buyer, what they are signing up for.

Personally, I would never sign a contract with those terms, unless they included the provision for the price to also be reduced.

It pays to read the small print :)

I priced an IW trailer last year with two dealers, I was told in very clear terms by both dealers that the price is subject to change from IW and could not be set 100% until the day of delivery. I put the order in with a very well known dealer in north Devon. The phone call came to say the price was going up £1000, he was incredibly apologetic even though he had made it clear at the time of order, and was completely understanding when I cancelled it.

It’s not the dealer that’s the problem, it’s IW.

The main issue is demand is more than their supply 😬

Every manufacturer seems to be doing the same at the minute.

Unfortunately how many would say that their costs had reduced 🤔 prob just say they bought their materials when ordered, when the prices were high...
Generally just two options, continue with the sale or decline. Dealer wins either way, as it will sell in the current market.

I agree, on low price goods. However, the clause I highlight is common place in high value contracts.

Most bigger agricultural machinery manufacturers will honour the price set at order for retailed machine. Many will put the price up on anything ordered for dealer stock, not retailed to an end user.

Asked for some prices on aluminium tread plate yesterday. Aluminium is in short supply, should be coming from Ukraine apparently,so going up £1000 a ton next month.

I'm probably over simplifying this.
If ifor are struggling to build trailers and that's their only income, could they ultimately run into financial trouble?
More like their margin has increased over and above material costs and their order books are full for nearly 3 years! Probably looks an attractive buy for a company looking to buy a manufacturing business.😏
