I know wheats are nearly 4 weeks away but , my tramlines this year are very green , don’t have high clearance sprayer or row crop tyres to round up now and no dryer on farm , what does everyone else do ? Just mix the whites in the rest of the dry wheat?

My agronomist told me years ago before all the glyphosate issues that the most beneficial part of spraying the crop off is that you run the green in the tramlines down

Find it when combining fields with footpaths through them here, I top them as they moan if sprayed off and by the time we're cutting they green up and head. I cut them and they soon dry down in the heap, not had any issues. Obviously topping them again pre harvest would be the answer

Have you noticed how green and healthy the regrowth is?
I was topping headland this week and a patch of wheat that got topped end of May is in rude health, despite no fungicide program, wonder what tale the combine would tell, and if anyone has ever dared do a proper trial...

Yes, also have some Spring Barley that I cut a strip out and that's looking great, no fungicide etc.

Tried a scientific and replicated trial involving employing rabbits to graze a winter wheat crop heavily over winter 😀🤬

I will let you know the result but previous experiments usually have less disease, less lodging but less yield as resources are diverted to regrowth.

I have not found any problem with this in the 5 years since i stopped putting tramlines in and just running on the crop. In a lot of cases if they are really green i find the combine knife doesnt even cut them and they just get left in the field.

Ah, but rabbits are relentless sapping crops energy 24/7 for months, one topping may be different?
The patch of which I speak was at boot stage when first topped, ear numbers now look perfectly normal.
