been asked to give a price to harrow and roll about 12 acres in 3 seperate blocks??? Normally just charge after ive done the job as per how long its taken. Dont mind doing it but dont want to get half way through the job thinking should of charged more!! Any ideas on price??
Will def need 2 passes with a 5m harrow then its a 9ft Roller. 90hp tractor

Happily, I have very little equine work these days...

I always worked on an hourly rate, with a call out and first hour at a premium over the following hourly rate, all depending on the task.

so for eg. £55-35/hr This covers a bit for putting on and taking off kit, washing down etc

I do remember being told I was charging too much and I pointed out that I was carrying out a better job than their set of knackered chain harrows could achieve... and that the investment in machinery was a little higher than Bert down the road on his Dexta, so get Bert in.

it's their mess but they will expect you to sort it out for sweeties. once cut a 2 acre field for "hay" for a horsey wifie and the bitch never did pay. lesson learnt. draw up a contract and get them to sign it and when they don't pay at least you have it in writing for the small claims court.

You guys must be really unlucky. I’ve had one bad payer since I started the business, took a few letters and she promptly paid.

Ive been lucky really only ever been had over for 10 small bales of hay. But i only do work for people local to me. Normally just charge for time its taken me to do the job right then everyones happy. These are new people moved into the area and just want to know price up front. Thing is you never know.. they may have used some one in the past who has tried to have there pants down doing work for them.???

To be fair, I dealt with a fair few equine/small holdery types in my previous life. The majority of them were 'provided' by a contractor associate who did work for them anyway I just had to go over and pass my eye over the weed issues and suggest a way forward.

The bulk of these people are wealthy enough and just want a good job done. They were a pleasure to deal with and made bit of a change from old JFTC* perpetually moaning about prices/townies/weather**.

Erm...actually grazing horses is agricultural. Just saying in case HMRC are on here.

Litter the field with jumps, little girls, and lycra and it becomes amenity and equitation, different thing altogether.;)

All it needs is a holding number[emoji41]
