a lot of my crops are now going down with the heavy rain and after a drive down to central Scotland at the weekend i was shocked and felt my crops werent as bad, some fields are completely flat out and about how will farmers lift them? with Nov wheat at 144 and a high chance of rejected malting...
Having quite a good year on spring barley and generally getting good nitrogen levels.
However we generally try and guess how much N the crop will need without going over and is very hit and miss. We use a lot of organic manures also. Obviously yield is an important factor.
How else can we...
Ive a couple of fields of spring barley that's are very lush....what would be the best pgr to go in at and at what rate, ideally to thicken the stem and take a bit of future height of it. It's just started stem extention. I've canopy, moddus and cerone in store.

I am planning on putting 120 kg of N onto spring barley in total. How much would people reduce this by for a SB crop following stubble turnips that we’re grazed by cattle over the winter.
I was thinking of putting 20kg/ ha less on.
Got some new seed tgw is 40 ( rest has been high 50s) seed looks crap looks like seconds will it grow?! Don’t think the seed will have the energy in it to tiller?
I know I know not as dry as Australia, but for growing good wheat 5 mm of rain so far this month following an exceptional dry winter is not go to be filling the barn, let's just hope we get a 15mm-25mm before the end of the month.
Every year in the east mids we see to have a spring drought now.
I’m planning on sowing some spring barley and ringing around I was advised by one company (probably because that’s all they’ve got left) to use kws irina, after reading about it it’s saying it’s more a brewing variety....just spoken to another merchant and he advised using planet in this...
I want to spray a 30 acre section of a field off with roundup this week, the field currently has Hoggs in it....how long would I have to take the sheep out for after spraying before I could let them back In? Many thanks
In the past we have grown a small acreage of Planet spring barley quite successfully, this year can’t get seed but been offered Propino. Is it any good, are there any issues ?
Many Thanks

ive just taken on some land which has been in grass (and weeds). Soil indexes are good. I would normally put something like 20. 10.10 in the seedbed but was wondering if urea would do the job as p&k are 3s and 4s? Any advice appreciated
Is anybody thinking of increasing their spring cropping area for the coming season?
Is Malting barley a consideration?

Saxon Agriculture have a wide range of contracts brewing and distilling for 16' and 17' for further details...
Just mentioned in Agricultural Matters it might be interesting if everyone just took a picture today of what you were doing, however mundane it maybe, would show the variety of work carried out, will start tomorrow.
