Demand for it seems to be increasing. My local Sainsbury’s now has a fully vegy isle like Asda does, and no meat counter anymore. I can’t say it’s not worrying since 10 years ago clearly that wasn’t the case. I was looking it up and milk consumption is all time low. (I used to be a dairy farmer...
Beans have beaten my pre em spray. I'm mad with myself. Drill guy told me they were in 6 or 7 inches. Turns out it's nearer 3. Went to have a look today with a view to spraying tomorrow and there's 40 -50 % emerged. Gonna drop the kerb but I'm tempted to go with the clomazone. Agronomist seems...
It's been wet and mild, other than barley nothing got rolled here ............................. yet no a single pellet used? not a sign of even the slightest bit of grazing
Just me ? or is this just what farming without OSR is like ?
Been chatting to a young lad who is tendering for a grassland 5 year tenancy.
He's keen as mustard but is struggling with BPS values going forward.
I've suggested budget on a 15% reduction year on year for next 3 years until the rent review.
Between £70 and £80/ acre is what I came up with...
Join us today for the Cereals LIVE Q&A Edition, we are hosting four live webinars created in response to the large number of audience questions posed at the June online event. Each webinar offers an opportunity to ask other arable farmers and industry experts questions about how to cope with...
Thinking of mixing a cover crop mixture in the future and after crowing linseed this year for the first time and seeing what good state it left the soil in. Does anyone know if I were to mix it with oats and rye grass would the sheep eat linseed out. Or is it not palletable Nz Romney’s. So as...
"2020, a harvest to forget": Nick Down is making big changes to his operation
Harvest 2020 may not have been easy, but we’re ploughing (not literally) ahead with plans for the future at Yattendon Estate.
Our 100ha of winter linseed just scraped 2t/ha thanks to the wet autumn and winter...
Spun some mustard, buckwheat and phacelia on after wheat in mid Aug, now have 6' high flowering cover crop. Neighbours and non-farmers are ringing me asking what in earth I'm doing.
My employee is desperate to plough the land ahead of peas. I was, but with a new 750a on its way, wondering if it...
Has anyone drilled direct into a sprayed off ley successfully?
Have a bit that has been round up’d 10 days or so and starting to yellow. Has been grazed by the cows but not tight. Would just drilling discs do a good enough job or do a bit with the system disc ?
Thanks
"A mixed bag": Andy Bason reviews harvest and the Resilient & Ready programme
I would describe 2020 harvest as one to forget.
Im sure farmers up and down the country will agree that conditions and results this year were less than ideal. But what else should we expect from a year that...
I’m an arable farmer from Lincolnshire with a growing interest in livestock. Mainly to spread the risk from solely growing arable annual plants, to grow perennials and build soils. Ive done a fair bit of reading largely around regen ag methods and have come up with a production system in my head...

If this account is accurate, this is so damaging to the trust that farmers place in the end user to act as an honest judge of the delivered produce. The problem is that they are not an impartial judge insofar as they stand to lose or benefit depending on...
As title. Are they any better than an MF30 drilling onto power harrowed ploughed land after its dried off a bit?
To me the weight on the back of the tractor looks horrendous and the dainty little suffolk coulters don't look up to the job.
It looks like a steam roller closely followed by smear...
Drilled most in to cover crops / or big Spring oat volunteers. Is there any guide to burn down timing. Guess it’s best to leave it minimum couple days to spring back up ?
