As title suggests but is it too late and too wet to claydon 2nd wheats in really? Wheat going on light to medium land, slug pressure should be lower with 2nd wheats? Could run the carrier over first when it drys up again.
Or just plough and combi.
Have seen an article saying 2nd wheats can do better and be more consistant dd drilled. Think average farmer said he had good results with 2nd wheats drilled with a Claydon.
I have a new to me Claydon SR bought this year for osr and bean drilling. Not brave enough to use it for 1st wheat after osr especially with wet weather/slug pressure this year!

DD needs good healthy soil with excellent biology to mitigate take all. If you have well structured soil, by all means DD it. Otherwise, like the rest of us, get it sown any way you can! I don't think the method matters this year, just do it well. Plough & combi looks good on top but beware of what you're doing to the bottom of the furrow. I thought about getting a contractor in but last time I did this with a combi I regretted it ever since. I undid 3 years of good work on the soil in 3 days & the spring bean crop sown was awful anyway.

Will let you know in August hopefully Bought a Claydon like you but have drilled some rape land and a bit of second wheat Rape land dryer looks good It’s wet here and don’t know anyone else who has drilled any wheat so probably not a good time to try All the vardy users have parked up and got an old tine drill out the back of the shed to hopefully get some in l

How did your 2nd wheats do behind the Claydon?

Just because you can drill it doesn’t always mean you should.

With hindsight I wish I hadn’t planted any beans last autumn/winter, but you never know how things will turn out.

Forecast for next week is looking kinder.....but whether that actually happens is another matter.

I still have 1t of winter bean seed from last year and the only ton I had.
Planted spring beans instead with the Claydon and they did over 5t to the ha and a joy to harvest.( wasn't expecting that)

Had 8.5 that which was pretty much the going yield for 2nd wheat locally 3 average price fungicide s and 170kg nitrogen Local guy with 5 years Claydon experience told me I never put enough N on early Have drilled some again but wetter than last year here Just wish I could get it drilled in good conditions Your beans done very well My 3.5 T crop was better than most around here

Flat 10 I nearly didn't believe it, they were romping in the tank with hardly any header losses and harvested at 16% moisture! No joke, never enjoyed harvesting beans as much.
Will make a damn site more profit than my osr this year yielding 1.9t ha.
