Do people have tickets for diggers similar to telehandler/ forklift for on farm use.

I can only seem to find the big courses for construction work online.

These tickets are a load of shite.you don’t retake a driving test every 3/5 years.I had 180/360/dozer ticket for ten years.no one ever wanted to see them despite working for British Gas,may gurney, persimmon homes.British rail and breheny amongst others.after my second 5 year period ran out I got a call from governing body telling me to renew at a stupid price.I refused and continue to do as much as I want and still no one asks for them.we are all sheep being bullied by governing bodies who fleece us to pay themselves.well f**k em all.

my reading of the regulations, is, one needs to be competent to operate any item of machinery, the regulations do not ask for a certificate, however, it is hard to prove competence without a "work" based qualification (which is why the qualifications ask for hours of appropriate experience on site). As to which qualification, there are different providers, and different employers/industries may choose one or another provider of qualifications. As far as working on the farm, we should not ask anyone to operate anything without first ascertaining if they are competent, and if not, providing training/supervision until they are.

And this is why the Country is fudged, !!

Recently looked at clearing an ex farm of all its grain equipment, 12 outdoor bins, and small intake plant, site visit all ok, agreed terms,
Then the paperwork trail started,
but job is now on hold because the management can’t afford financially to manage the site whilst job is in progress,
because Land agent, upper management, lower management, and all the surveys, can’t be justified,
Whom are we talking about,
oh the Forestry commission, there’s a surprise

Well at least it sparked a conversation! I agree the whole thing is questionable in what it achieves for experienced operators, but when I first did my telehandler test the examiner rattled off several horror stories that did make me take note of how easy it is to kill your self or someone else. That in its self is worth it.
Thanks for the replies!

The other thing of the course the insurance company backing in the event of an accident. If there is no proof of training then I’m sure they will walk away.

it may be rare for a large company to ask you to produce your ticket, but you normally have to sign that you have read and understood the site rules, terms and conditions of employment etc. These normally state that you should have the relevant ticket for the equipment you are operating, lifting equipment is all tested etc. And if you’re through a sub contractor, then they will have agreed to these terms, but may not actually police it. Its almost taken for granted now that people know they need to have the tickets for a site, so it would be rare they don’t. More so for insurance reasons should something happen.

Tickets are not a legal requirement whatsoever, be it farm construction site or anything else. All that is needed to operate machinery on a big site is that the operator can prove competence. This could be done by allowing them to demonstrate their ability on a machine to someone in charge on the job for example but this would make somebody else responsible which we cannot allow anymore in the cotton wool world. So as a result we have tickets which are merely a way to demonstrate competence to operate machine applicable to, nothing else.

Years ago I know but the farm I worked on had a 3CX out on hire. When the driver had his fortnight annual holiday I would be sent off to take his place to keep the thing in work. I could have been anywhere, I do remember a couple of weeks one year spent in some back streets in Rugby with the Gas Board with the words ringing in my ear that if someone with a clipboard approached I had to speak to them in an Irish accent as I was supposed to be the regular driver!

And we wonder why HS2 and roads cost millions of pounds for every mile installed! This country is hamstrung in red tape whilst the Chinese and Americans get on with infrastructure projects every day of the week.

it is all to do with procedures, if something goes wrong and everyone has followed procedures ~ no problems, but if someone has taken initiative and gone "off piste", the whole bureaucratic world falls in on them!

Napoleon, was wrong, England is not a nation of shop keepers, we are a nation of bureaucratic rules followers, this is why, when the EU created a law, UK, then "added to it", as it would be good practice.

This is why, when apprenticeships has EU funding (social funding), there was a need to prove the apprentices had permission to live and work in the UK, England had a form to fill in, Wales needed a copy (of the original) either passport, birth certificate or national insurance letter! If no proof, no apprenticeship!

To work on a building site tomorrow i can catagorically tell you a cpcs/npors card will be needed.

Gone are the days of just arrive and drive, it all comes down to liability now and no-one wants to be liable

Client appoints project management company
Project management company employ competant contractor
H+S rep from contractor sends all paperwork and accreditations
Contracts manager employs site manager with SMSTS
Site manager checks all operatives are compentant, by photocopying cards

You can see how sh1t rolls down hill with everyone making sure they are not liable if anything goes wrong...
