7310r or 6250r?

Weighing up our options, currently running a 7310r as our prime mover but we only really need the power for 3 months of the year. Thinking a 6250r with the new hyd boost may be a more versatile option? Needs to be able to pull a 6m horsch sprinter on 5"dutch coulters well which is about as hard as it will have to work, which when direct drilling pushes the 7310 hard.

250r will definitely be more versatile as well as much cheaper. Could always run a 3 inch point to reduce the amount of power needed? A few people round here running 250s on 6 metre sprinters.

Yes I have had that thought but we contract drill 500ha a season as well as our own 500ha's so dont always get the choice on points. We'll have a demo in the spring on some direct heavy slopes and see what happens. I agree 250 will be more versatile and cheaper to run hence the thinking but we can't be underpowered

On our second 6250r. Spends most of its time on a tanker but also used for cultivation. It does pull extremely well, we have been very pleased with both of them. Definitely worth a demo to see how it handles the drill.

I priced a 6r250 against a 7r290 3 month ago. Specs as close as could be. The price on the 7r was about 30% higher. And they are all very expensive i think. The deliverytime was about the same month, but different year(!)
My dealer say they hardly sell any 7r's. Either 6r250 is enough or they sell an 8r, as the price difference to a 7r is apparently very small, and the reliability track record much better on the 8r.
He talked me out of the 7r i wanted. Time will tell how the 6r does. It has a max total weight of 15 tons, so it is possible to weigh it up to pull what it can.

Trouble is the 8 series or a Magnum is going to be a huge lump of a thing to do anything else with besides cultivations or drilling in nice big open fields. Anyone who has ever grain carted with one will know the fun it is getting out of gateways with one- you're basically across the road before you can see up and down the road.

Found this old post on FF - not sure if it helps

Used a 6m sprinter and it needed 240hp on cultivated soils drilling in october. These were the standard duetts though not the thinner bourgault type. Our own 4m sprinter on bourgault's runs easily on 150hp.

You could look to change from Dutch openers on the Sprinter to Bourgault VOS - less draft and therefore less HP requirement. Contact Stuart from Bourgault UK ([email protected]) for more information.
To avoid any confusion around this claim and ensure they are talking apples to apples, Dutch offers over 20 tip options to fit your holder. If you find you have troubled pulling the 5" tip, with little cost you could go down to a 4" or a 3" tip. I suspect you will be just fine with the option you have suggested in your leading post.

There is no confusion and we are not comparing Apples with Apples.
There are major differences between Dutch Openers and Bourgault VOS which I find concerning if you think that they are the same.
One other point of concern is that you think farmers in the UK need 20 different tip options. We feel that the majority of UK farmer actually only need two options. So why try to sell them 20???
I look forward to your response.

Personally I'd stick a 900 series Fendt on it ....... waiting for incoming :)

I’ll start 😜
I find it amusing that you mention a 900 series as a fendt replacement for the mentioned models 😄
But it’s good to know what they are capable of, from someone who know 🤣

Dutch openers i'd be keen to speak to you direct. I like the points but lots trying to a copy. Might just be me but they seemed to last longer a few years back

Good Morning Mr Onions. We are aware of all of the companies that have been copying our tips. Copying a product is exactly that. The Dutch system has grown over the last 20 years and the demand from producers has caused us to extend our tip offering to the size that it is today. Feel free to message us if you have any questions or concerns as we always want to hear from producers.
