Ahem, Weeds!!

There are Triclopyr products for amateur use (no certification required). Professional products a PITA for garden use.

However, IPM, Sustainable Use Directive, you know the drill, why not just strim the lot - three goes and grass will move in and you can get the area mower friendly.

Your landlady will love you for it.

Grazon pro is easy to use . 6ml to 1000 ml water as per label.

Bit of some sort of water conditioner / adjuvant might help with leaf contact / absorption

Then leave it alone for a decent length of time .. a month or so, to let translocation occur throughout the plant and back down to those pesky roots and ryzhomes .... for a thorough kill.

And dont get impatient and strim it all off after about 10 days just because the mississ wants it -"tidy looking"

Never had much luck with just striming or cutting cleavers - always seems to come back with a vengeance. Worst is when it gets in around the base of a hedge & have to hook it out before cutting or spraying.

Leave it to get a bit older then, before hacking it or pulling it out with yer hands ... dont let it go to seed tho
... cleavers are easy to kill ... ( unless they're in your barley of wheat ) ......being a (shallow rooting) annual (y)

Mornin’. @Renaultman was bang on straight away. Pastor or forefront will have the cleavers. Grazon Pro will knock em but not always kill them in my view. My point last night was just put some pastor in an old grazon bottle. Much cheaper and if anyone asks what you use in the knapsack you’re a good boy.Obviously in the cold light of day no one should do this.

safety wise there isn't any difference ie both types needs treating with respect, breathing fine vapour is the biggest uncatered for prob. ime. but then actually my back sprayer or bike sprayer is less vaporising / more coarse spray than crop sprayer.

Only difference is certificate of use.

Take care using what ever type.
just about everyone wears nitrile gloves but not so often do they wear a quality mask,.... which is a good call especially if you a bit asthma prone or sensitised in any way...

The garden is about 1/2 acre,

Still have holding number as old home not sold yet, and please correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know (been trained) - the law does not state you need holding number to use proff chems, only the required certs etc, which I have?

You're fine on the certificate front.
But beware of the fact it may state agricultural use, a garden isn't classed as agricultural.
Just something to keep in mind after making it very public on here.

A strong rake and plenty of tea and chocolate cake will clear most of that without chemicals (at least for a few months). Only spray once you have unearthed the shrubs otherwise you run the risk of killing them off. Also, are there any perennials under there somewhere?

Ok, but Don't wear  shorts .. and do wear long gloves when doing it as those nettles might 'tickle ' a bit :D:unsure:

Grazon Pro states for use on lawns hence why I was looking into it:

Quote:
Safe For Use On Grass, Lawns, Paddocks, Pasture. End quote

I wouldn't contemplate trying to use forefront, as from what I know - it can only be purchased via Agronomist only.

It is not difficult to buy a lot of products from companies if you can satisfy them you are a bonafide customer. It is not illegal for me as a civilian to go and buy 1000 litres of anything from the nearest distributor if my intention is to get a contractor to apply it to my 200 acres of arable farm or grassland or whatever. It would be illegal for me to go and actually apply the stuff myself if I had not received the necessary training.

The phrase you are looking for is amenity use basically. A select few products are approved for this and would be safe and appropriate for your situation.

So why would Lawn be on the label if Amenity is the preferred wording (sorry for the questions), but a lawn would be similar to privately owned land surely?

Thanks, will dig deeper, just got to find something Knapsack applicable etc.

Products with knapsack approvals will have jumped a few more hurdles with respect to operator exposure and be safer for you doing the application. Some sprays can licensed for tractor mounted sprayers but might not actually be very safe for people anywhere near the spray- irritating skin or eyes etc.
