I was planning on going to have 15 ewes and lambs for sale this time. Great plans hey...;)

But will there be any buyers in a fortnight as the weather looks shite for another week or 3 still? Any prices about yet ....?
I can’t see a trade unless this weather improves

What are they? How many lambs? How do you value them yourself?

Heard they were only fetching £150/outfit on Tuesday apparently.

That would have bought a full mouthed Welsh ewe with a 2-3week old Texel lamb at foot in Welshpool on Monday from what I saw.
I thought they were crazy money, considering the weather conditions.

As above, when it warms up after this wet spell, grass growth will be explosive, as will the trade driven by grass fever.

We've been selling mule outfits for the last few weeks sold our last batch today. We have averaged £242 for mules with twins at 2-3 week old . But in my opinion i would say they have been dropping abit each week as numbers increase and the weathers not helping the job at the moments. If you do sell some make sure they have strong lambs that have been outside as young lambs have been the alot cheaper with the weather as it is.

But who would take the biosecurity risk of buying breeding sheep from lots of sellers? Eg what the macket for putting the ewew back in a breeding sheep?

Why is someone who want an easy life willing to take an ewe in "end of life" condition with her lambs? Or are these most draft hill sheep getting a last year on good grass?

Because there are a considerable number of “old -school” sheep keepers who give no regard, or even understand bio security, iceberg diseases, or worm resistance

tbf why should they if they are buying ewes and lambs to keep the place tidy/ manage land in a scheme/ fill a gap in a rotation/ heaven forbid just for a bit of interest and enjoyment ?

It's a good thing to have buyers for all grades of stock; gives the experts something to measure their expertise against.

There’s a lot more farmers running flying flocks (mine included) than there are running closed units.

The sheep I make the most money on are the ones I buy and take a chance on. Doesn’t always work, but more often than not it does.

Thats exactly what i was going to put . And plus its a good job there are people who buy and sell sheep alot otherwise these people with closed flocks would have no markets to sell into
