Are those woolen smocks that good,?

Had a chat with one of the largest swanndri importers yesterday. I suggested the quality wasn't what it once was since manufacturing moved to China but there's still nothing like it on the market. Apparently China has and is still improving its weaving process to make a tighter knit.

What was the consensus on the Ridgeline?

I tried one and took it back after I'd tried pulling it on and off a few times. What a pallaver I thought, especially if it was wet when you took it off at lunchtime, or when trying to get it back on afterwards, when it's still damp.
I went and bought a good Betacraft coat for similar money, to wear when it's unavoidable going out in a monsoon.

On the other hand, Mrs NeilO has a smock top like above for walking the dogs, and she loves it. 🤷‍♂️

Did you try using the zip on the side 🤣

A jacket is easier on and off, but a smock is comfier and warmer on the bike IMO. They aren't too bad when wet unless it's been utterly torrential and you e been in it for hours (but what jacket is nice to put back on after that?)... they are fine to take off when that wet, pull like a jumper and it's off before you know it.
I don't rate Ridgeline, although they appear to have upped their game with the newest smocks - but I prefer the older 'fleece bonded' goretex types which are getting harder to get as they were harder wearing and felt a lot more durable

Betacraft and Kaiwaka are the new poser clothing on Insta it seems. Maybe you're a trend setter 😉

Just been having a look never thought about this new manfangled gear but I’m quite fancying a bib and brace and a smock.
While fencing we all wear smocks, ridge line and kwaika, we got sick of wearing crap wax jackets, hi vis, tweed, nothing was good for the job to actually be comfortable, waterproof, warm and hard wearing
They have been worth the money in our line of work

We likely don’t have it as cold here to be a problem on a bike. My system doesn’t require me to tootle round every bunch with a snacker every day either, so a woosey jacket is fine for me.

As far as posing goes, I think the BetaCraft stuff looks awful, only marginally better than Hi-Viz stuff imo. It’s very effective at it’s job, but hardly a fashion statement.

But you're no a real sheep farmerer if you don't snacker sheepies twice every day, routinely trim their hooves, have rappa pens and electric fencing kit... as well as ponce about in Ridgeline smocks which always looks immaculate and brand new 😉

Agree Betacraft and Kaiwaka kit looks naff (no matter how good it may actually be) 🤣

I used to live in wax jackets, they were ok but my cheap smocks are a big step up. The old snacker is just folks don't mistake me for the gamekeeper 😝
