Badger faced Texel šŸ™„

Is anyone here running any?
Unfortunately, someone with the power to make my life difficult has decided they would like to have a few, šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø
My questions are, are they just funny looking texels that bring nothing to the table that a decent Texel wouldn't bring?
Just another fad or pointless smallholder/ hobbiest sheep?
Do their lambs actually fatten like a decent commercial sheep, or are they just about looks? Never seen them in the flesh but from pictures etc they either look long legged and shapeless or very heavily trimmed to look good in the show ring.
I can not believe the prices I've seen them selling for! Ewe lambs at Ā£600/ head!! Doesn't seem to be many about so maybe she has a point, we'll be rich on the back of them.
This time next year Rodney...

Wouldnā€™t be as big as a texel from what Iā€™ve seen more like the blue texel. Have ended up with a tup, bit of a pet, solid shapey thing just not very big. Used on texel x hoggs easy lambing had some good lambs good meat at 36kg slow to put weight on once they get there. 95% of the lambs weā€™ve had have been white. Selling wise your market from a pedigree flock would be hobby flocks and smallholders I would think.

So potentially a tup could be used on first timers?
Too much risk for ewe lambs?

Pretty much a blue texels in different clothing, like a poor beltex imho! You can get good and bad in every breed don't get me wrong.....but if you want a quick fix and not so expensive.....find some blue texels ewes and a dasenkop tup we've had good results 90% lambs come out looking like dasenkops

We run them a a pedigree flock. Easy managed sheep, we now have new bloodlines from Belgium in ours. Any we sell fat always top the market or in the top prices.

In contrast to Blue Texels and Dutch Spotted things, I cant say that I've ever seen a particularly poor Badger Faced Texel, but I've not seen any that haven't been in 'forward condition' either.

They are pretty things, and command a (temporary) premium for being different, but I can't see how they would be any better at fat lamb production than a decent shaped, medium sized Texel really.
I suspect you could do a lot worse for a foray into 'pretty' sheep @Guiggs , but I wouldn't expect them to make me rich.

Tbh I don't want anything to do with them, however I can see how that will end!
Regarding fat lambs, I was more thinking of putting the ram to a B flock of shedders to see if it could add a bit of shape to the lambs and give the ram more work as opposed to AI ing the badger ewes as I expect that would be pretty expensive.

I cant see how he wouldn't add shape, but I doubt you'd gain any growth rate or kilos, even with the benefit of hybrid vigour.

Aren't all shedding flocks being bred pure, so as to sell all their ewe lambs to other enthusiasts and adopters?
I read the other day that you could sell 30kg EC ewe lambs at Ā£130...šŸ¤·

I breed mine pure at the moment while upping ewe numbers.
Having to retain virtually all ewe lambs as I never seem to get on buying shearlings, always a lot of wastage, never seem to have many that get to their second lambing for one reason or another. Hopefully be able to start selecting more critically with next year's ewe lambs.
Then I'll be able to sell any old shite to some unsuspecting mug. That's how to get rich with sheep šŸ˜‚
