The deal is over rated it will not have any major impact on beef prices in general. Only the Irish owned meat companies will benefit, as they will have a new outlet for some cuts, it will have no impact on mart prices as these companies do not purchase from marts.

Bloody good for nothing levy boards - Opening China for beef and opening India for lamb.... huffle puffle huffle puffle

I think you will find that meat company sales reps travel the world for new customers. The levy board are outdated, unless the price is right China will not buy an ounce of meat from us levy board or not.

Other industries do perfectly well with export trade without having levy boards just shows how backwards farming is in this modern world where customers can be found via the net.

In Ireland China clearance is only for under 30 month animals and animals coming from a herd that is free from TB for 6 months or more. Herds that are eligible to purchase in store animals from tb positive herds aren’t allowed either. The Irish dept of ag call them feedlot herds. It’d be the herds that can purchase from (correct me if I’m wrong) red marts in the uk.

Having said all that it is seemingly a very good market for certain cuts and can only be a good thing

Well there must be something to be made from it cos the Southern Irish factories are all trying to get Chinese approval, the quantities they take are increasing steadily, i would think they will take a fair amount of 5th quarter stuff too, I know they are taking all the bits of a pig we don't eat, right down to the arse holes.
