Really surprised to hear that freezers in the UK still don't have lids and doors on them, its been a legal requirement for quite a number of years here. :scratchhead:

Have just checked with someone who goes in these places - imagine ! - and yes you just lean in to grab your frozen chips or whatever.
They use more electricity than does all of UK agriculture - references on the attached.

You don’t help the credibility of your movement when you claim that sort of thing as fact.

If someone wants to produce some figures to show it is wrong then they can crack on. It seems reliable enough to me, none of the sources would appear to have any vested interests. In the meantime I have put it out there, for folks to ignore or quote as is their whim. It's called campaigning; something this industry is singularly useless at.

I campaign in my own way, thanks. I'd like to think I have more integrity than to portray as fact something that I know has been just made up, and would rather that my own industry wasn't damaged by those that do.

Not really a reliable source though, is there?

“it is estimated”
“According to information on a petition”.

Do you really need a reliable source when you are just dealing with logic and common sense. Unless legislated for, supermarkets just don't want the large additional cost, unless they can see a marginal return in it.

You don't, but if folks stuck their head inside the stores that they are slandering they would see that plenty already have lids on freezers, doors on fridges etc. Campaigning to the public with something that's obviously questionable does us no favours other than reduce our credibility when we have a genuine point to make.

So you are saying this is basically a non story. I've no idea as I have never discussed it with my UK family members or friends, why would you!

lol, if you are bored/ inquisitive enough to want to prove that anything I have said is factually incorrect, then crack on. Matters not to me, I have achieved my objective.

This. The government tendering processes are a total farce. During my brief career with the civil service, this is exactly what happened again and again. Good, reliable local firms outbid by large nationals who either went bust mid way or came begging for extra cash to see the job through. All under the guise of "value for money for the tax payer".

Most of the procurement rules came from Europe (though were seemingly ignored by the French and the Irish), it would be interesting to see if there is any change for the better post Brexit, but I doubt it. Government procurement is an industry in itself, so a lot of jobs for the boys.
The procurement rules were one of the improvements that Maggie pushed through Europe. However nowhere in the rules did they ever force governments or local authorities to take the lowest tender, they just had to open tenders to international competition.

So the yanks, secure in the knowledge that Global Britain, is signed up to another fifty years of supplying military bag carrying and the occasional trip to town, have now declared they have better things to be doing, than to be arising around doing a trade deal with GB.
Says it all really….

If only there was a large economic bloc closer by that we could remove trade barriers with.
