Hi, has anyone had success crushing bracken?

Needs done twice a season for 3 years plus, it’s pretty labour intensive. Got a weed wiper and hitting them with roundup now, much more efficient

Does the wiper work?

If your not doing to much you can walk through the bracken with roundup in a backpack and just spray up above it , you won’t see much happen this year but the bracken won’t come back next .
limited results with bracken crusher , use ours for putting breaks in kale for electric fence now

Yes, may have gone on slightly heavy last year tho as I killed everything underneath it too, still better than a sea of bracken tho, dialed it down this year but already seeing the bracken on the turn

Have they not just revoked the license for Asulox ? That would rule out a drone ?

Does the wiper work?

Yes. It's very effective. Just use glyphosate through it. Just get the timing right (needs done in the next couple weeks - when the bracken is at its strongest, just before it starts dying back)

Just use roundup
The grass will grow back or overseed it

National Parks employed a chap with a bracken bruiser to roll bracken on the hill above us, twice a year for four years. Not a bit of difference.

From what we gathered talking to a company at groundswell it’s still not approved to spray pretty much any pesticides with a drone at present!!!

You are not allowed to drop anything from a drone at present I believe.
I have wondered about using a 2 line kite to fly a sprayer backwards and forwards over a patch of weeds.

Got rid of bracken wth chain harrows ,was told to do it last week of June and beginning of July as would be at weakest having used it’s energy up growing. But anytime will do , best twice a year and it will weaken every year after. Anything that bruises it will do , just twin wheels if steep ,but a slow job. Was a fella fnear me crushing bracken with his tractor and duel wheels last year was good to watch as it was a steep bank 🫣

if you no the land it wouldn’t be to bad but I wouldn’t risk a tractor on my fell as there’s holes and stones everywhere in the bracken you can’t see… it’s bad enough weed wiping with quad bike
