Bredal K40- what’s happened here??

Spreading lime yesterday, finished the last of 5 loads, spreading fine, drove back across the field and shut off the pto before I got to the gate. After shutting the gate I got a whiff of burning belt and found this!?

looks like a vane has somehow caught the plate that holds the stainless chutes and in a few hits bent it down proper.

Anyone had/seen this before?

I’ve looked all over the frame of the thing to see if anything has shifted but it all looks fine. The discs are wearing thin, would they have flexed enough to catch the plate above them?

The frame for the dividing plate hasn’t got weak and dropped the plate onto the disc has it? Our old bredal is 1995 and about done and have had bother with the divider sagging, also seen the box move up if if the spreader gets bottomed out, most common if spreading on uneven ground that’s baked hard.

The frame looks as fine, all bolts where they should be and nothing slipped. Ive looked all round the box trying to see if it’s moved at all anywhere but can’t see anything suspicious. Was going over level ground, certainly nothing that would have fouled the box.

I was and still am a bit stumped.

Might have found the culprit….

The vanes were replaced last year or maybe the year before that, this particular one was never welded along the bottom, only tacked at each end, the rest having 3 runs of weld along the bottom. It’s maybe given up, bent upwards and caught the plate above pulling it down enough to foul the others. Super

These are usually the culprit. This was a present from BS in there limex😬
Kind of them. No nothing that size in this stuff.

Discs were really needing changed too so have ordered from Dutton agri, and persuaded the plate above back home with a pipe wrench and some leverage, she’ll be good as new.

Anyone know the purpose of this ring? There’s only one on the left, I see the disc has been fouling it slightly, tempted to cut it off if it serves no purpose.

As well to go through it all will see you ok for another few years then. The ring you were asking the purpose of I am pretty sure it is for a speed sensor

Well that’ll be coming off then 🤣

it’s a cracker of a machine but is needing some tlc, very front and very rear floor rollers needing new bearings as they’re not taking grease, still turning ok tho. Grease nipple location has a lot to do with it, the easy ones get done, the harder to find ones funnily enough are where the trouble arises.

Can anyone tell me if the discs are/aren’t supposed to sit level with each other on this machine? Looking from the rear, the right hand disc sits down at the rear, whereas the left had disc sits a bit higher.

Ive noticed it before so it’s been like that for a while, maybe it’s meant to be like that?

Should be level

Hey,
Check out these as a superior alternative to all the current discs and vanes on the market.
With a one piece vane with no welding and all the support in the disc they have far better wear properties and are more cost effective.
Give me a call if you want more info.
