Got a friend who’s calves are getting to 2 months old and then going downhill fast, no scouring or anything just really going backwards. Vets have done several blood tests and found nothing, vet is suggesting possibly chronic fluke. Anyone heard of anything like this before?

Had a cocci problem and kept taking fresh samples to vets who found little or no cocci
Treated with veccoxan and calves picked up straight away
Not many things it can be at that age

Are they on limestone ground? I wouldn't have thought it'd be fluke if they are, unless they graze river meadows maybe.

We get the occasional calf with chronic lead poisoning when outside, as we have several old lead workings on our land and so may lick the soil. They go really dozy and dopey and lose condition/bloom and eventually go blind, can be treated with a massive dose of vit A (I think). Acute lead poisoning is when they ingest a big amount from lead paint, old batteries etc. They go mad rather than dopey when it's acute though.

It’s youlgrave area he’s at, and there is a few rakes about his land but i guess lead poisoning wouldn’t explain the issues with the calves that haven’t been out!
