I have a Calving Jack and a 3+2 pulley and blocks, I will always use the blocks with an assisted calving whilst the chap who helps me will always go for the calving jack. What's every one else preference?

Most farmers I have seen use the ratchet to pull the calf out. The jack is designed as a big leaver. Push down on the leaver and take the slack up with the ratchet when going back up.Surely people will know when they are pulling too much.
It shouldn't take long to work it out.
