Well done. I remember trying to persuade you about that sometime last year. You won’t regret it.Bought our first calving jack today, a vink.
Any tips on how to use it correctly and safely?
calving ropes go in the washing machine after use
just don't put them on a "boil wash" as the rope melts! Done that, had to throw them out!I've done that with mine this time. Worked a treat.
I prefer the standard one that pulls both legs together. Spreads the weight on both the calf's legs.Yes, I’d say that’s going to pull the legs alternately but it’s different to mine which is alternate. I went for the alternate as I felt it was a better way of easing the calf out than just a straight pull, don’t know if I’m right on that, just my gut feeling.
And make sure you clean all the bits of membrane off of them before they go in or you will be guaranteed to get stern words when they come through with the next load of washingjust don't put them on a "boil wash" as the rope melts! Done that, had to throw them out!
I've got that t-shirt. Totally unrelated but if you're going to wash your teaser harnesses in the washing machine, make sure you get them out before she comes home earlier than expected ....And make sure you clean all the bits of membrane off of them before they go in or you will be guaranteed to get stern words when they come through with the next load of washing
Trouble is, I have to get her to start the washing machine.....I've got that t-shirt. Totally unrelated but if you're going to wash your teaser harnesses in the washing machine, make sure you get them out before she comes home earlier than expected ....
Vink only experience inhave of vink is my vets fell to bits and i had to get my calcong jack , its a 1988 tecnal imo better build quality than a vink Mine was new in 1988 only jack i have had and its like new, even the vet agreed mine was better than hers
Id bet it will be better made than vink as well .View attachment 1031256
This head is a great improvment for the Technall calving aid - you can even by a new Technall , with this non slip head .
Didn't need the jack for this one....the joys of out door calvingJust got the cobwebs off mine ready for the first calving of the yearView attachment 1031577
There’s nothing better than calving outside….untill you need to use the vink…Didn't need the jack for this one....the joys of out door calvingView attachment 1031644
100%... Herefords so don't have to chase them round if they need help. Jack is kept in truck only for the first calf heifers but have never needed to use it. Cows live out all year and only get forrage and a precalver lick. Still a hard job not to let them get too fat or carry too big a calf but so far so good. There’s nothing better than calving outside….untill you need to use the vink…
