Car for parents

Ok so I need to sort a new vehicle out for my parents. It’ll be leased for 3 years. They are coming out of a GLC merc but it’s not high enough for them as one suffers with a really bad back. Budget around £500/month + vat. What would you suggest please.

GLA merc?

I would not buy a Nissan. Buy a Toyota if you want a value orientated car that's Japanese. Automatic Rav4?

I would strong advise not buying a brand new car nor leasing one if your parents are anything like mine as it will acquire random dents and dinks and scrapes with alarming ease. Can buy a second hand Rav4 automatic for 10K or less which will be less painful to see slowly destroyed.

Actually, was forgetting the Kia Venga.
They have decent almost suv ride height, and are available as auto. MIL has one and loves it.

Have just brought father a Renault Captur auto. He loves it not to big and easy to get in and out of.
only down side he’s never where we left him now

The other factor in favor of a used car besides the little dents, is that they're not going to be commuting everyday running up the miles, the car will depreciate from age more than use, might as well buy a late model used car with reasonable or even high miles, and sell it on in five years with a lot less loss.

Getting your parents an automatic transmission is funny in the US, NONE of these cars have been available with a manual transmission for a decade over here. Maybe technically you could order some, but stick shifts are extremely rare outside of sports cars.

With greatest due respect, old people, and particularly elderly parents, are of a tendency to be mitherers, even if they were carefree and adventurous in their earlier years; it is what they do best in their twiglet years.
So the likelihood that they will ever be happy, and thus give OP any peace, if he gets them an Ebay special, is probably fairly remote.
Elderly parents tend to like the security of a belt and braces warranty.... and they will still take soup, blankets and a shovel with them.

Hi chaps, just instead of replying individually the vehicle will be leased because that’s what we’ve always done. We lease all vehicles through a business (none farming) and they are changed every 3 years when the manufacturers warranty runs out. I won’t be buying anything. I’m happy to be spending around £18,000 over 3 years on a nice vehicle for my parents as it’s it works from a tax point of view, whilst giving them a nice car to use for their annual 15,000 miles. They’ve helped build a business up so they should see the rewards as much as I do.

I’ve quickly looked at all the suggestions on google and they all look like the same ‘mini suv’ size as their current Merc GLC which isn’t high enough. It probably needs to be another few inches higher because it’s not the seating position that’s the issue it’s the climbing in and out because they need to be climbing upwards to get in and downwards to get out if that makes sense.

They thought about a pickup and whilst it works from the bad back point of view, it’s not ‘car like’ enough for them.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
