Always been Massey done us well with little bother.but the case man has been and dangled a big carrot-a 165 multi controller front links .pretty much same spec as the Massey .but the case is a nice bit cheaper.the case seams to be a no brainier.thanks for any comments

I bought a case a couple of years ago after nearly 40 years of masseys.
Didnt like the last massey I bought so got rid pretty quick for a 150 maxxum.
Like the case, glad I bought it , it’s a nice tractor to drive although I don’t think they’re as refined and well put together as my masseys, little things like the windscreen wiper only wipes a relatively small portion of the screen and nothing is as good as the MF power shuttle.

I’m a massey man at heart and keep looking at them but there’s nothing in their current line up that I’d swap my case for

How much cheaper and what mf model are you pricing up. Are the case dealer on startup terms?

Christ 8k I’m a massey man but at that it needs buying. Can’t imagine what the difference would be to a jd last time we priced up mf v jd tge mf was 17k cheaper for 200hp. Guess the dealer used to sell jd?

Back in 2015 we had a few demos to find a replacement for a troublesome 6490 MF

The previous purchase had been a 7620 VT, that replaced a very good 7495.
Demo (over about a year)

NH 7040 AC - lads verdict - "If you buy that thing you'll have to drive it yourself"
JD 6175 DD (iirc) "How the hell are they the market leader, its shite"
Fendt 720 - "its ok, but you have to think too hard, nothing is easy or obvious, no thanks" (£28k dearer than a 7620VT)
Case 160 Puma CVX - "Its ok, but I wouldn't want to sit in one all day" (£20k less than a 720 Fendt)

The consensus summed up by the regular driver of the outgoing 6490 "Can't we just have another Massey?"

So another 7620VT it was.

Price and preference were the main drivers, but having separate oil for hydraulics and transmission is a big plus of the VT Fergy (and the Fendt tbf)
I was more impressed with the Case than I was expecting to be, I must say. Minus points of Case over MF? (apart from the oil thing above) Geometry of the linkage - they're a good bit longer in the arm than a MF. Bit noisier (especially outside the cab) Less ground clearance. Rear end biased re weight - you need weights on a Case before you do on a Ferg) Better points of Case - the cab layout (espec the armrest) is much better laid out. Good exhaust brake. Good engine (though thirsty compared to a Sisu).

If you've no preference, and both dealers are similar re service, let price decide. But do get a demo first.

Was all red here until I got a T7.210 AC. Better machine and cheaper than the 7618 at the time. I might go back but no regrets at the moment. Most recent tractor was a 5610 for Dad, it was a no brainer over all the competion.

We had a 7718s mf and puma 165 on demo in july, we have mf on the farm and the puma was the first case I have driven for years and was impressed with it. There is very little between the two on power and grip I found, same field, same job so it was a good comparison, think the mf had a little more staying power engine wise but I found the case cab a nicer place to be, we will be going for second hand and would happily have either, so think it will be down to the price for us, but if we get a Massey then I'd want the muticontroller joystick, those stupid up,down, neutral buttons for the linkage are crap, much prefer the rocker switch in the 6400 series.

For what it’s worth I’m on my second Puma. The first one was a range command 130 which suffered from premature failure of the synchros in the gearbox at 1500 hrs even though it had a pampered life and was serviced according to schedule. I now have a Puma 150 power command which so far has been fine and according to the Case Mechanic I use the power command gearbox is better due to no synchros. My other tractor is a Claas Arion 530 with the Hexactiv (dyna 6) gearbox. Although not as powerful as the Puma I prefer it to drive in all aspects it is so more refined. Comfort on the field or road is best I’ve ever experience. I agree with previous comment that Puma is rear heavy and needs weight, even though the Claas is shorter because it’s a 4 cylinder it’s weight distribution is more equal and handles heavy equipment better for its size. The only thing to watch with a Claas is don’t spec one with the Sears seat get the Grammer it’s in a different league. So would I buy another Puma I doubt it.

Dig down in to specs properly! Was a mf man but our dealer quitted in 01.so went green jd cost a bit more but were cheaper to run in repairs never had a bad one in 5 models .still try mf but find cab layout poor. Tryed a 165 multì con case nice engine poor brakes and finish. The jd was 8k more for a6155 ultimate auto steer section control ect .case didn't even have isobus or a screen.
Looking forward to the new mf cab coming to sub 200hp bracket.

Had a MF on demo but went with the Case instead. None of us like the cab layout in the MF and the way the seat was so far forward from the rear of the cab so visibility for hitching things wasn’t great. The draft control was very jumpy even after being setup by the dealer. At the time there was hardly any price difference so we opted for the Case and now 2 years on, we are very happy.

Not sure why the draft control should be jumpy, as far as I’m aware they’re using the same set up they have used for a long time.
The less said about the poxy hydraulic switches the better though, what was wrong with the old rocker switch.

Bigger oil pumps with same rams do tend to make the smaller frame tractor linkage lively but shouldn’t be jumpy. I find the bigger frame and the old open centre ones are best for draught but slower to use
