Chinese Pig Mega Farm

If you look at it dispassionately, does it matter that it is high rise ? The pigs wont know or care. If it's more energy efficient than an identical set up being spread out single story over 26 times more land, why not ?
I thought it was originally about land. It's not easy to get or expand in China, so I understood.

No, it was originally about biosecurity. The original herds houses in towers were only the high health nucleus herd. A central air filtration system was installed in these units, to prevent any disease or viruses entering. To prevent the breeding stock getting wiped out in a disease outbreak.

This is the first I've seen of a main production herd being housed in a tower. I note with interest that the farm is part owned by the owner of a cement factory. This being China, to me, this indicates there is a good bit of corruption involved in the construction somewhere. It doesn't pass the common sense test that it is efficient or cheaper to house pigs in a tower.

I imagine China runs in corruption. They build them near large cities not near the grain basket too! Not my thing I like to see pigs outside

This from a nation that buried live pigs after a suspected outbreak of swine fever …

Non condoning it for one minute but is there footage of them get buried ?
I wondered if they maybe gassed them like they did in Oz in the 80s with sheep.
Even shoving them in hole with digger bucket is unbelievable, never mind burying them alive 😧😧🥵

Yes there's lots of footage from Asia of live weaners being moved in tipper trucks and buried alive. Or burned in the hole, alive. All under the auspices of disease containment, be it foot and mouth, swine fever or something else.
