Not something I'd like to do, but some of the gurus would say that inbreeding lines is fine, and if crossing onto another breed it might actually be advantageous.

But again, not something I'd do.
Line breeding to produce lines for crossing is fine (if managed carefully), not sure even then full parent/offspring crosses are the best idea really.

If you were going to breed pure, without the intent of producing these, youd want a wide genepool.

Sadly. I think you were very unwise in your court case and should have been advised against it.
The practice of line breeding is how breeds came about to produce a common type.
Before anyone says it is not natural, yes it is, the predominant bull in a wild herd will breed with all his female harem , irrespective of some being his daughters. This is true of all herding animal, in fact it is only the human animal which has ever come up with the concept of incest.

Sounds like the village next but one too ours… it’s in a hole, all roads drop into it. It was only the arrival of the railway that started watering them down a bit! And they are still referred too as Bollywogs. Even some of the teachers at school reckoned they could pick out each bolly kid by just watching the playground for 10 minutes!!

I had close dealing with a family from the Pakistani community here for several years.
They were a really nice bunch, but dealing with them you always felt they had the better end ;)
Talking to them one day I had noticed they had a common issue, which appeared to be a form of jaundice, this they confirmed and it was genetic and according to the doctors they had spoken to was unique to their family. One brother was in fact fairly ill and had a lot of testing done.
He told me that as far back as they knew in their family they had always married their cousins with the result that they only had 2 sets of great, great grandparents! Not only the jaundice but one of the sons was how do you say it today , subnormal, he could work but only n the company of someone who kept prompting him what to do
