Can we get more pics? Maybe some from underneath. It looks like a Ford 6600 engine to me. If it has a Ford back axle there should be a level plug about half way down the corner of the central part of the back axle on right side of that, or left side as it would have been on the tractor.

It’s only a guess but the transmission was perhaps a Borg Werner 4 speed? Pics will help.
Thanks - I think it's a 6550 ? It is 4 speed (when you can find them!) Pics attached - they certainly weren't built to make it easy to work on.

Ford 6610 or 6410 engine anyway. Sorry not sure about the rest of it. Did you find the level plug.
Seems to have a bolt on both sides and maybe a plug on the LHS but can't really see. The manual just says to use the dipstick on the top (which makes sense) - I'm guessing that the dipstick passes close to a gear and it's maybe had a circlip pop off allowing it to move a bit ?? - It's clearly worn the dipstick away a lot. Otherwise it runs fine. But splitting it to take it apart is a non starter.

Well just to update - took the top off which was a bit awkward hanging upside down in the cab !! Couldn't see anything amiss in there - stuck it all back together. I guess I'll find out eventually if it's something important!! If anyone on here does have any spares/parts I'd be interested - pls just drop me a pm or note :) Thanks, Doug.

If it’s the Ford engine,I would drain the coolant and refill with good antifreeze and plenty of corrosion inhibitor.Mate of mine had one, engine went porous after a couple years, got to dismantle the whole machine to change the engine. Then again,if it’s lasted this long it should be ok!

Sorry for the rather tardy reply !! - Yes I've done all that - it's just this rattly noise I'm bothered about...it does use a bit of water and I do check and do regular oil changes - it had loads of the leak sealer in which made a difference I think - it doesn't have a hard life so as long as the rattling isn't something significant....I'm going to remove the dipstick part and replace the plug and see if it stops....it is a bit intermittent which is complicating things a bit. NB Still looking for a source of spares ....anyone..... :)
