Combine performance in rape

Saw some 750(?) rotors stripped out the other day, could not believe how small diameter they are. Can well believe it would be a hellish business to have to unplug something like that.

Well hopefully next time we get started I will get some other machines in the field to see how they perform , hopefully a friend is bringing his CR 9080 and hoping that the local Claas dealer has something for me to try ,
Friend really rates his CR and reckons it performs across all crop types , he has a narrow bodied and wide bodied models and reckons the wide bodied is a hell of a machine ,,,,,,, no doubt the same can be said of Claas ,,,,,,,, I remember Clive and lee having issues with a narrow bodied machine ,,,,,, I will be on a tight budget , it will be interesting to see what I can get , a very tidy 580+ on tracks with 1200 hrs appeals if there are any about

I don't think I would buy a big used lexion so make sure you go over it properly. They are very complicated machines under the panels and repairs will be expensive. The flagship models of the particular year your looking at will tend to have been hire machines that are really pushed hard cutting far to many acres for them. Go for a model down instead as they tended to be farm owned so 570 or 2011-2013 760 (wide body). If your not interested in an axial flow then your decision is made isn't it ....... NH!

If I chopped most of my straw then it's a simple decision , but allas all cereal straw is baled

We are baling everything now and are setting the combine to knock the crap out of the straw as we want it chopped up as you get more weight into the bale meaning less bales to handle which is a big job if there's 1500acres of bales to move. Also it goes through a chopper before it's final use so why not pre chop it a bit with the combine.

Great. Until it rains. Then you have to try to dispose of it as you will never bale it.

Not been a problem the last 3 years. Just bought a little haybob and we turn it. Also some weather on the straw takes the shine off it making a better product for biomass burning.

It seems that I shouldn't complain ,,,,, been chatting to another C series driver today and he reckons that if I'm doing 3,5 kph then I'm showing off , if that's the case then things are going backwards , my old 40 RS used to romp along. :)

last 8 year ad case single rotar this year a cr
case unblock ease is second to non just wind it on the deslug mode never taken out concave to unblock
cr had 3 block ups just remove the front concave if the unblock wrench fails 10 minute job

I would never want a combine that the operater is in fear of blocking it up
the operater needs to be able to go to the limits of the machine without fear or they sit on 70% rather than 100%

I would be happy at 50% at the moment :) ,,,,,,,, problem is we lost near on 5 hrs yesterday in the best part of the day

yesterday started at 11 am less than 24 hours since it stopped raining at 13% moisture by load 3 we were down to 9% by load 5 under 8% kept going till 11 30 pm 10 % then started this morning at 8 am and finished a field and opened out the next

We had a good early start yesterday but unfortunately it all went tits up early afternoon , but I agree with the jist of your post which is to keep a eye on rape moisture because it soon comes down on a breezy day

Lexion setting in OSR for (780) CEMOS will play around with it but a starter.

Concave 35-40mm (fully open is 50)
Drum 650
rotor 900 . less will help sieves and returns.
wind 900

top sieve 10mm

bottom sieve 5mm

Very similar to what I am runnning on our 770 although rotors a bit slower as crop very ripe and breaking up. What is your starter settings for wheat Tom?

Looking like a better week next week ,,,,, hopefully got a CR coming to do a few acres for me and I'm bothering the local Claas dealer to see if they can show me anything in the field ,,,,, as I'm not a new machine buyer I don't expect I will be very far up the demo list tho. :)

Wouldn't say that we're fairly small fry and boss doesn't buy much new stuff when we wanted to replace our Axial flow we had a T series demonstrator in for a big day (we were cutting only a few hours each day previous).
It worked as now green albeit only a 2258.

We had CTS for 3 years. It wasn't to bad in Wheat, but in Rape we found output poor. It was painful to drive if the Rape stalks were green. We now run a Lexion Hybrid and find it a step forward over the CTS. A friend has a CR New Holland and that goes very well in Rape. Hope this helps.
