Combine performance in rape

It's been a good day today !!!!!!! Hardly cut any rape but for the first time in 5 years since I had the machine I have had someone on the machine that knew what he was talking about , still think it will struggle in rape but time will tell

Was this a John Deere personal?

Would still suggest you give the T Series a try, I think it will do what you want. If you are still thinking of the starfire system, it will naturally complement well.

Just stop buggering about and get a 2nd hand 750 job done ......worked for me

Hmmm , don't think that you Yorkshire folk have got the monopoly on fiscal matters , although brother and I run the farm we have our own version of Maggie Thatcher who controls the cheque book !!!!!!!
But next year we are due to change , time will tell what colour ,

But had a very good JD man come to see me yesterday and he reckons he can transform my machine with some parts. , time will tell

Isn't combine performance in rape more about canopy structure than the color of the combine. 570 munching thro picto at 7/8kph here where the canopy is just above waist height. Where the straw is 6ft long a slight slowing required.

I have only ever been able to take just the canopy thru this machine since I've had it , ,,,,,,,,, never been able to cut a short stubble even on a short variety

My plan is keep it 5 yrs so time will tell costs per acre over that time . At current acreage shouldn't put loads of hours on in that time . Only had a few hours in rape and was probably a bit green but sat cautiously at 4.5 kph

Lexion setting in OSR for (780) CEMOS will play around with it but a starter.

Concave 35-40mm (fully open is 50)
Drum 650
rotor 900 . less will help sieves and returns.
wind 900

top sieve 10mm

bottom sieve 5mm
A long time ago but, have you any idea what forward speed your combine was travelling at ,with those settings.

@Mr Charisma did you ever have a revelation in the JD C670i OSR set up? Would be good to hear if you discovered anything that transformed or at least improved it! Thanks

well ,,,,,,,, instead of slowing the drum down to the lower speed i ran it in high gear so basically ran the drum a bit faster and that helped a lot but truth be known i still think the C670 is crap in rape but its a problem which has disappeared now we cant grow it

on the whole it has been a very disappointing machine , never once have i said to my self "blimey have we cleared some acres today "
perhaps my expectations were too great

Because you run them for three years, then they burst into flames and insurance man gives you a new one?
well not really in my experience, more because they do the job relatively well with relatively little bother

all brands have fires (unfortunately) as Claas outsell other brands I guess statistics dictate more fires.

Err, we have much hotter & drier harvest conditions than you lot could EVER imagine . . .
I have NEVER heard of Claas machines being particularly fire prone
In my own personal experience, most fires I have heard of have been JD, apart from one Case, & a NH ( but the NH was an insurance job ). That’s down to the fact that here, JD are the most popular
As @Clive says, it stands to reason that most fires are in the most popular / highest number machines.
Fires are down to operators, maintenance & clean down procedures ( here, everyone has big air compressors for blowing down daily or more frequently if needed, & water / fire fighting carts in the paddock at harvest. You ought to try harvesting chickpeas in 40 + C temps & 10 % or less humidity . . . Static electricity causes spot fires on vertical body work just from the dust . . .
I have no brand loyalty in any fashion, as I have always used contractors for my harvesting, but the idea that Lexions are somehow more fire prone is just complete & utter small minded, small dîck bullshît
That certainly hasn’t been the experience here - in a much more fire prone, extreme, hotter & drier environment . . .
We just know how to prevent fires in the first place . . .
