all depends on weather
we would some times open a open a second field in day light before finishing the first one as easier in day light to allow later working in the dark but also helped that can get around the with 25 ft header on mostly (though in process of starting to widening remaining gate ways go will be aiming for 2 16 or 2 20ft gates just not sure what one to go for)

Until the combine breaks down!
Went to start at 2:30pm yesterday afternoon, actually started at 4pm - wouldn't start.

Finished at 4:45pm (yes, 45 mins cutting!) as a bolt that holds belt guards and hydraulic pump tight sheared off on bell housing.
Still on WB.......😫

Edit: 3pm finish today after 1 and 1/2 hours cutting. This time a nice oil leak.

Those are the sort of days that make keeping sheep seem like a good idea!

With quite a few seed crops I would sometimes go late (1-2AM) to get a variety finished at night giving me the morning to clean the combine out before moving to the next variety.
Now the workforce (and me) is older and the combine is now well boss of the job I try to stick to daylight hours if at all possible.

I mostly quit around eight ..... to go home to milk !! If the weather is good we might stop earlier if bad weather then if cutting wheat or beans i would go back after milking and cut on to meet the rain or finish the field .
The cows dont seem to mind late milking at harvest time but to be honest as i get older it gets harder to even think about going all night no matter what the weather.
The real killer is the breakdown that happens just before quitting time .
Then you have to get the combine back to the yard and spanner half the night to get her ready for the next day .
